The pool at Buckland has been part of summer weekends here for years. It isn’t heated, so not luxury spa temperature, but very good fun all the same.

People tend to drift between the pool, the lawn and the house all day long when the weather’s good, and once someone gets in first, everyone else usually follows not long after.

There’s a lot of space around Buckland House, and people tend to use it properly when the weather’s good.

Cricket on the lawn, coffee outside in the morning, drinks before dinner, wandering down towards the lake, children running around until they finally tire themselves out.

It’s one of those houses where everyone naturally spreads out during the day and then drifts back together again later on.

A good spot for big family weekends, birthdays and group stays over the summer.

It’s surprisingly easy to do very little here - and enjoy it. Coffee in the morning, a walk if you feel like it, or just sitting out and letting the day pass.

It’s hard not to end up down by the lake at some point when you’re staying at Buckland House.

It’s a short walk from the house, and once you’re there you can have a relaxing row in the boat or if you’re into a bit of coarse fishing spend a few hours on the banks chatting with a rod out.

On summer days, people often don’t feel the need to go anywhere else. Between the pool, the gardens and the space around the house, everything’s already here.

The pool isn’t heated, so it’s on the cooler side - but on a warm day it’s perfect for a refreshing dip and has seen plenty of afternoons with inflatable unicorns, a ball being thrown back and forth, and people jumping in to cool off.

And for the cold water swimmers among you, it’s ready whatever the weather.

One of the nicest things about getting married at Buckland is that everyone can stay together. The celebrations stretch over a whole weekend rather than a single day, with time for proper catching up, long meals, and moments to enjoy the setting.
