The house has welcomed business retreats, yoga weekends, creative workshops and family celebrations for years.

With plenty of space indoors and out, groups can come together, spread out when they need to, and make the house their own for a few days.

Summer is starting to draw to a close at Buckland.

The evenings are getting a little shorter, but we’re not quite ready to say goodbye to days around the pool and time spent outside just yet.

Who else is hoping for a few more sunny September days?

Lovely to see this way of doing things getting some attention!

This article caught our eye recently. It looks at a meadow in Norfolk that has been allowed to develop naturally, without planting wildflower seed mixes, and it’s very similar to the way the meadow at Buckland has been managed for years.

Nothing has been planted here either. The meadow is left to grow through the summer, then cut for hay once the flowers have seeded.

It’s a simple approach, but over the years we’ve seen more wildflowers coming through and the meadow is always busy with butterflies, bees and other insects in the summer.

Just 17 bedrooms, each with its own character, ready for a house full of family or friends.

Did you know Buckland has a sister house?

Just over the border in Somerset you’ll find Northmoor House, nestled on the edge of Exmoor National Park.

Like Buckland, it’s an exclusive-use country house made for bringing people together, whether that’s a family holiday, wedding, retreat or weekend celebration.

Each house has its own character, but both share the same relaxed atmosphere, beautiful grounds and feeling of having somewhere entirely your own for a few days.

There’s something about a weekend in the countryside that encourages you to slow down.

Coffee in the morning, fresh air, long meals and plenty of time to enjoy the house and grounds.

Not a bad way to spend a few days.

There’s no right way to use the ballroom at Buckland.

One weekend it might be dressed for a wedding breakfast, the next it’s hosting morning yoga, family games or music and dancing.

That’s one of the things we love most about it - it becomes whatever your stay needs it to be.

The wildflower meadow at Buckland has naturally been encouraged through careful management.

Nothing has been planted. It’s left to grow through the summer before being cut for hay once the flowers have seeded.

This simple approach allows the wildflowers to return and multiply each year, and it’s lovely to see just how many butterflies, bees and other insects it attracts.

It’s one of our favourite places for a walk.

If you’re looking for a country house wedding that feels relaxed and properly private, Buckland works especially well.

The house, gardens and grounds all become part of it - not just for the ceremony, but for everything around it too. Everyone stays and settles in together for the whole weekend.

The pool at Buckland has been part of summer weekends here for years. It isn’t heated, so not luxury spa temperature, but very good fun all the same.

People tend to drift between the pool, the lawn and the house all day long when the weather’s good, and once someone gets in first, everyone else usually follows not long after.
