Botanical Ink Colour Making Workshop with • Thursday 18th June, 10am to 1.00pm 🌈

Start your botanical colour journey using inks extracted from plants. Become and alchemist for the day, experimenting with mixing and modifiers to create incredible colours and varieties. All the inks will have been made at the SILT studio and you’ll discuss the step by step process behind how they are created and preserved.

You’ll make a beautiful colour wheel as a reminder of the techniques shown and meet other like minded artists and makers. We’ll talk about environmentally sustainable art making in the studio - how making our own ink helps us make direct connections between our practices and the immediate surroundings. Through the process we can also gain greater understanding of how colour responds to light and questions around archiving and the environment.

led by artist and co-owner of SILT: Sustainable Image Lab, Trowbridge, Anna Chrystal Stephens. SILT is a studio for ecologically aware image and colour research.

Foundation Script Calligraphy with
Wednesday 17th June, 10am to 1pm ✍🏼

Using a square edged nib and ink, explore the beautiful and timeless ‘Foundation Hand’ lettering, created by Edward Johnston, ‘godfather’ of Western Calligraphy and designer of the London Underground typography.

You’ll learn how to use a traditional square edged nib - an utterly different skill from the pointed, flexible nib used in copperplate calligraphy - and by the end of the session students should be able to write their name or short quote in their new skill. All materials, hand-outs and equipment is provided so you can continue your new skill practice at home.

Taught by Adele Dark, calligraphy artist, accredited teacher and founder of Calligraphy in the Cotswolds.

Tickets are £70pp and include all equipment. Book your spot now 🎟️

Word Play: An Experimental Lettering Workshop with ✍🏼

This workshop is all about being playful with lettering! You’ll get your ideas stretched with interactive and sensory lettering exercises. Designed for all skill levels and walks of life; to encourage creative play, instil confidence and explore handwriting as a form of self-expression.

WORD PLAY is anti-calligraphy; a radical attempt at an antidote to perfectionism. Here, we favour personality over beauty, and we are down to play, be messy, share stories, and feel good about ourselves!

Walk away with your own handlettered stickers, ideas and tools to evolve your own penmanship and explore lettering in your own time.

Tuesday 16th June, 1.30pm to 4.30pm, £50pp with all equipment provided. Tickets now available! 🎟️
