This week is Volunteers' Week and we would like to celebrate our wonderful Jane Austen Festival stewards.

The hard work and dedication of our volunteer stewards is at the heart of the festival. We simply couldn't run it without them!

Our 2025 stewarding team was our largest ever, truly fit for a 250th anniversary year.

From litter picking after the Pleasure Gardens to pinning up trains at a ball, the duties of a steward are certainly varied!

We hope you join us in giving thanks to all our volunteer stewards for everything that they do.

Here is a little snippet of some of the truly accomplished Regency dancing we saw last night!

All of the dances were garden themed, guests can be seen dancing 'A Fig for Bonaparte'

"To sit in the shade on a fine day, and look upon verdure, is the most perfect refreshment"

We are certainly appreciating the shade of our gardens this week, but what were gardens like during the Regency period?

Timothy Mowl’s lavishly-illustrated talk will consider designed landscapes and gardens in Jane Austen’s novels, not only as representative of current horticultural fads, but as important elements in the plots, providing the background to moments of high emotional drama.

We are looking forward to our Gardens of Sotherton Summer Ball this Saturday.

We've been taking inspiration from many of the beautiful gardens around Bath for our costumes!

One of our favourites is The Botanical Gardens, which we will be exploring again this year on the festival mini promenade.

Which is your favourite garden or green space in Bath?
