This is an amazing article for everyone that took part in the last few spinathons with myself and Rob Walsh , it shows the fantastic piece of equipment we were able to fund at the Royal united hospital Bath.

Thank to you all the new Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) that will benefit people treated at the RUH with heart disease.

An IABP is a mechanical device used to support the heart function of acutely ill patients. It is inserted into the aorta (the body’s main artery) and pumps in rhythm with the heart, to increase blood flow and cardiac output, whilst reducing pressure on the heart. It can also be used for high risk patients receiving treatment for narrowed and blocked coronary arteries.

The life- saving machine will be used by the RUH’s Cardiac team in the Catheter labs, enabling haemodynamic support to their patients, in order to continue with their emergency procedures. It will also support patients who may have to travel to other hospitals for further surgery!

On the day i (Tash) will be running a Fitbit challenge for £5 an entry.
The winner will be the person with the most steps. If you want to take part you will need to add me to your Fitbit app so I can add you to the challenge.
£5 can be cash payable on the day or as a bank transfer.

Cash prizes in return. The more that enter the bigger the prize. For 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

A few days to go and the weather is currently 16 and part cloudy/ sunny

Please remember all health questionnaires must be with Tash or myself by latest Wednesday evening as Tash has to review them all and we will not have much time on Saturday

Please remember the minimum sponsorship money to raise per bike of £50 where possible.

There are two bikes - 43 and 45 which are spare from 12.40 to 6.00pm if any of you know anyone

Anybody who says UP THE TOFFEES to Mike Singer - Everton Fan then he will donate a £1 for everyone who says it to him- Bike 9

What to Expect on the Day?

1. Don’t forget to set your alarm clocks for this event. It’s an 8:00 am start and we recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before, to secure your bike and set up the bike to your height….
2. EAT A BREAKFAST. Go for porridge, toast and fruit. High carb meal will be needed.
3. Pack plenty of fluids and snacks like jelly babies, but for 10 hours you will need a lunch, so make sure you prep this the night before or buy en route.
4. We advise that you bring a gel seat or buy some padded shorts.
5. At 8:00 am the first stint begins, so make sure you jump on the bike beforehand and make sure you are happy with the bike set-up and how it rides!
6. For the people who are doing the day in teams then the best bikes for you to use would be the Star Tracbikes. These will be placed in the marquee, so please look for the Star Trac bikes for the people who are in teams.
7. Please bring a change of clothes during the course of the day.
8. Please bring your own water bottle. There are toilets nearby to fill up.
9. Please bring either SPDs or thick soled trainers.
10. Please refrain from chewing gum as it dehydrates you and nobody fancies doing the Heimlich manoeuvre.
11. Ask family and friends to come down and support you during the day and be bucket holders.
12. We MUST have all medical history forms signed and handed in before the event please.
13. At 12:40 pm or 1:50 pm the people doing 10 hours can change where they are in the marquee if they want to look at a different backside!!
14. There will be an auction on the day of which there will be various items. Details will be sent separately and will be on Facebook.
15. The most individual sponsorship money received will win a Fitbit.
16. There will be St John Ambulance supporting us on the day
17. We will be celebrating at the end of the day with some cans and sparkling wine so please bring along any that you wish. We will also be providing some.
18. Any help at the end of the day would be gratefully received – taking bikes back to the Sports Centre.
19. Lastly. Please pace yourselves.
