Further images from this year's first Downside Abbey Festival. Pontifical Solemn Mass celebrated by Abbot Nicholas Wetz with the Choir of Saint Mary's Church, Wimbledon and the final concert at Saint Andrew's Church Mells with Tenebrae Associate Artists.

Some photos of last night's Festival 'Come and Sing' here at the Abbey, directed by Sir John Rutter. Close on 200 singers, comprising some eighteen nationalities, raised the roof with a selection of glorious choral music.

The Festival continues this afternoon with a concert of sacred choral works performed by the Choir of Saint Mary's Church, Wimbledon. The concert starts at 3.00pm with free admission.

The Downside Abbey Festival has begun with two tours of the Abbey Church this morning.

We are now looking forward to this evening's concert - a feast of uplifting music featuring the Abbey's grand Compton organ played by David Bednall joined by the Bristol Brass Consort. Music for organ and brass by Gigout, Peeters, Karg-Elert and to finish, Widor's grand 'Marche Pontificale.'

The Downside Abbey Festival is launched by international organist and composer, David Bednall, together with the Bristol Brass Consort, to perform a festive programme of works for brass and organ in the magnificent setting of Downside Abbey. Featuring the Basilica’s grand Compton organ, the largest made by the firm, the programme will include uplifting works by Peeters, Gigout, Mawby and Widor alongside works for solo organ and brass.

Tickets: £13.00 plus booking fee £10.00 for under 18/students
