📣 FLASH SALE - 25% off the leaf & buds shop this weekend only! 🌱

I’ve been a bit quiet on here the last few weeks as I prepare to move back to Japan for a while. Leaf & Buds will continue to evolve, and there will be some online offers coming up, but I will be closing the shop for a little while as I figure out how to run things a bit more remotely.

But for now, I figured I’d offer a last little sale before big changes start happening! If there’s anything you’ve had your eye on, now’s your chance to grab it xx

A few highlights from 2025 at Leaf & Buds!

🍵 Some regular events which are becoming highlights in my yearly calendar, particularly Summer Tea Fest and Lunar New Year with - as well as some exciting new connections (photos 1-4)

🎁 Launching our online store, offering teas & teaware beyond our in person events (photos 5-6)

🤓 Investing in my own education and development with teacher training and tea processing training with the China Tea Science Society in Hangzhou (photos 7-8)

Amidst all this, I’ve been balancing Leaf & Buds alongside several other jobs and significant changes in my chronic health conditions this year. As rewarding as it’s been to try so many new things, it’s also been stressful and intense, particularly in a year that’s been challenging for small businesses across the board. I’m looking forward to a 2026 where I turn in new directions, find some more quiet and peace, and maybe actually remember to take some photos during events 😅

Running a small business on your own is no joke, and it’s something I want to learn to do more sustainably. Not sure yet where I will take Leaf & Buds this year, but I hope you’ll stick around for the journey 🥰

Our favourite way to brew our Japanese teas 🌿

This white ceramic kyusu (Japanese side handled teapot) is such a beautiful, simple, and robust vessel for brewing tea. It comes without a lid, turning the process of infusing tea into an opportunity for mindful reflection as the tea leaves unfold. The fine mesh strainer catches even the smallest tea leaves, and it slides right out allowing for a super easy clean!

You’ll spot this kyusu at all our events - it’s a great vessel to encounter new teas in, and very easy to handle for anyone new to loose leaf brewing!

This kyusu is on sale right now at the Leaf & Buds shop until the end of the week 🎁

The Leaf & Buds gaiwan 🍵

A gaiwan is a Chinese lidded tea bowl that’s perfect for brewing small portions of loose leaf tea in the gongfu cha style, using a high leaf-to-water ratio and multiple infusions of the same tea leaves. It’s a wonderful way to build a close, hands-on, mindful connection with your tea. We love the white porcelain’s simple and classic look, perfect for watching your tea leaves unfurl as they infuse.

Our gaiwans come with a short leaflet explaining how to brew with and care for them, making them a perfect gift or introduction to the world of loose leaf brewing!

& in preparation for the holiday season, I’m running a sale on the entire Leaf & Buds shop - enjoy 25% off everything until December 19th - so you can get this gaiwan for £22.50 right now 🌿

🌸 Sakura Sencha - last 2 left! 🌸

One of my favourite teas, and a surprising twist on what you might expect out of a floral blend. Cherry blossom has a delightfully spicy kick, almost like cinnamon, and a nutty, almond-like flavour that gives this tea a bit of a marzipan vibe. Who says floral teas can’t be autumnal??

This summer, I was fortunate enough to attend a tea processing course with the China Tea Science Society in Hangzhou, China. This was an incredible experience - spending 10 days immersed in the historic home of Long Jing tea learning hands-on processing techniques, meeting experts in the industry, and experiencing tea traditions from all through history 🍵

Here’s a selection of photos from this whirlwind tour:
1. I’m learning to pan-fire green tea with Professor Yuliang Deng
2. Meeting the CTSS leadership team
3. My first Long Jing!
4. Learning to hand-roll black tea with Professor Yang Ye
5. Visiting a matcha plantation
6. Sensory evaluation training with Professor Xu Liu
7. A statue of Lu Yu, who wrote the Classic of Tea, at the Tang dynasty tribute museum

The course is already reshaping how I think about tea, and particularly how I think about teaching and sharing - so who knows what’s next for Leaf & Buds?

As I’m quieter on socials while I process & plan, the shop remains open, so do feel free to stock up on teaware and particularly those roasty teas like hojicha and kyobancha as we head autumnwards! 🍂

A little throwback to October 2023, when was in Japan at 🌱

In the first slide, we’re harvesting tea leaves that will become culinary matcha. When you’re baking or cooking with matcha, you want something robust and punchy that’ll hold its own against other flavours, so a later harvest is perfect for this 🌿

In the second slide you can see freshly harvested tea leaves just starting to wither 🍵

And lastly, look at those flowers blossoming in an abandoned tea field 🌼 often these autumn blooming flowers are removed from productive tea fields because they draw the plants’ energy away from tea leaf growth, but October’s the perfect time to see them if you can!

In the mood for hojicha now that the weather is turning, Bath is shrouded in clouds, and autumn is properly here 🍂

This warming, toasty tea is roasted at the end of its processing, creating its signature caramelised sweetness. The roasting process also reduces the amount of caffeine in the tea leaves, making it a perfect evening accompaniment on these shorter days ✨

A few 50g packs still available on our online shop, 🔗 in bio!
