Come on South Hiendley, where's all our scarecrow entries???
The first year we did our festival we had a huge response from our community, most of the village turned out on the day and we had 72 scarecrows, we've not had anywhere near that in the years since, what changed? Why don't people want to do a scarecrow, they did the first year, what made you not want to do another??
Quite a few people have in the part expressed that theirs, their Mums, neighbours, aunties should have won. The phrase it's not about winning but the taking part" couldn't be more appropriate to the scarecrow festival, we'd love them all to win. In our eyes they are all amazing. We've tried a few different voting options, including an independent judge and we've settled on the people that actually come to the festival and see the scarecrows get to vote, it's only fair.
It's really not about the winning, let us explain.....
We organise the festival for our community, for both our village and nearby villages to enjoy a purse friendly day out. Many families struggle financially and doing something lovely with their children that doesn't cost much means so much to some families.
We need scarecrows to provide this community event, no matter how big or small we want them, we love them and we appreciate each and every person who supports us.
We only have 17 scarecrows so far, 9 of these are crew members.
Do you think you could help keep this community event going by doing a display?
