Soultrane Festival

Soultrane Festival The first dedicated Soul, Jazz and Funk festival in N.I.

05/06/2026

If soul has the power to connect people across the UK like this, bringing together such a diverse community, imagine what it could do if more people committed to using soul music the way Soultrane Festival advocates for it to create positive change here on the island of Ireland.

Like Alan said, it could be huge!!!

The vibe at Room2 Hometels at our monthly residency last night was wonderful. Those who see the true value of Soultrane and share a desire to build something meaningful, not just for a moment but for life, are slowly but surely coming together. It’s beautiful to witness.

Alan and I started the evening as strangers and left as friends. That says everything.

At Soultrane, we’re interested in using the principles of soul in creative ways and partnering with organisations to make positive change through music, culture, connection and community.

If you’re interested in Soultrane’s work, or know someone who might be, I’d love to hear from you. We’ve got big plans for the good of our community and we can’t wait to share them with people who believe in what we’re building.

What we do is Built with Soul… but Powered by You!!

Can’t wait to hear from you!!

PS - Put the 1st thursday of every month in your diary and come join us at room2. Its free . and change only comes if we show up in whatever way we can.

Get up on your funk! Today we’re diving into one of the most infectious branches of the soul music family… all things FUNK 🕺🏾✨

Born in the mid-1960s within African-American communities, funk was pioneered by James Brown’s signature “on the one” groove, flipping rhythm into the star of the show. Rooted in soul, jazz, and R&B, funk is all about deep basslines, tight rhythms, and music that moves you.

🔥 Cultural Impact
Funk wasn’t just sound, it was a statement. Closely tied to the Black Power and civil rights movements, it became a vehicle for expression, pride, and social commentary.

🎧 Legacy & Influence
From funk-rock to hip-hop, funk laid the foundation for countless genres we hear today. Its DNA lives on in modern dance music and beyond.

🌟 Icons of Funk
Earth, Wind & Fire
Rick James
Prince
Stevie Wonder
Chaka Khan
Betty Davis
Tower of Power
Herbie Hancock

🚀 Funk in the 2020s
The groove never left, it evolved. Artists like Silk Sonic, SAULT, Thundercat, and Remi Wolf are reimagining funk with neo-soul, indie pop, and synth-driven vibes. Meanwhile, bands like Lettuce, Khruangbin, and Cory Wong keep live funk thriving.

🎶 On Our Radar
Adi Oasis
Emma-Jean Thackray
Ana Frango Elétrico
Little Simz
Parcels

From raw grooves to futuristic funk — the rhythm keeps evolving, but the soul stays the same.

Turn it up. Feel it. Stay funky. 🎷💥
