Bearbrook Duathlon

Bearbrook Duathlon A friendly local duathlon in Aston Clinton: 2 mile run, 12 mile road cycle then 2 mile run. Enter as Add a fiver if you're not a BTF member.

A friendly local duathlon for competitors keen to sample the delights of duathlon with a 2 mile park run followed by a challenging 12 mile road ride with the 2 mile run repeated. Race can be done individually or why not take it on as a team if you know someone who's handy on a bike or can run like the wind! This is the first year of the event so is set at a bargain price to help us understand the

logistics to make it a fantastic event going forward! £20 for individuals or £25 for Teams. Despite this being a "fun" event I fully expect to see some awesome times out there to set course PBs. Prizes for teams and individuals! Follow the link below to sign up:

Hi all
Just to confirm we have decided to cancel this years Duathlon. All the uncertainty around group events, the extra paperwork and all the other events that are currently rescheduled for September it makes no sense for us to go ahead with our little event.
We are sad about this and hope to be back next year.
Thanks very much
James and the team

Huge congratulations to everyone who took part in this mornings 3rd Bearbrook Duathlon. We hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did marshalling it!
Attached are the results for the day with some fantastic results when you look at the details.

Relay Race
Winners:
Maurice Hardman & Vicki Holden

Mens Race
1st - Andrew Taylor
2nd - Neil Boddington
3rd - Guy Stapleford

Womens Race
1st - Debbie Bradley
2nd - Harriet Haseler
3rd - Laura Turnball

Debbie Bradley not only won the ladies race and was 3rd overall she also got the fastest bike split of the day which is fantastic work! This inspired me to look at the results compared to the previous 2 years and makes it the 2nd fastest time we've ever seen on the Bike course with only Ben Hawkins from last year ahead of her! You can all have a nose of these results too seeing as I've done them.

Well done all, and hopefully see you all next year (signed up a lot earlier I hope!!!!)

Race briefing

I hope you're all well and looking forward to this Sunday's 3rd Bearbrook Duathlon.
Hopefully this email should give you all the information you need so you can plan for a fun & safe event but if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask me either before via email or in person on the day.

Address
Aston Clinton park postcode is HP22 5HL , there should be plenty of free parking as the football crowd don't turn up until after 9.
When you arrive head to see Sarah who will give you your number and race details then you can select where you rack your bike - racking is done on a first come first served basis.
We will be setting up from the crack of dawn so you can collect your numbers from 7:15 onwards once we have hopefully set up the field appropriately.
If you're bringing your family with you there is a lovely cafe which opens at 8am as well as a great kids playground and mini skatepark for the young'uns to be occupied in.
Generally we have the park to ourselves for most of the morning (as it's early!) however it is open to the public and we have no right of way so please do be considerate, the prizes/goodie bags aren't that great!

8am Race Starts
7:50 Race briefing
7:15 Race registration opens

Late Entries
We will be accepting some late entries on the day however you will need to pay via the online website so that you are insured appropriately. We will not be accepting any cash on the day.

Transition
Transition will be manned at all times so your kit and bike should all be fine so no need to bring locks etc. If you do have any valuables you want looking after then please just let myself or one of the marshalls know and we can put it in a safe place.

Weather
Currently looking good however as it's September it might be a bit chilly when we first start off so might be worth chucking a hoodie in the car!

The Run - 2 laps of 1 mile - Once before the ride and then the exact same after the ride.
Pretty much follow the perimeter of the lovely Aston Clinton Park avoiding football pitches, skate parks, trees and allotments. Will be marshalled and marked out so you will do very well to get lost! 2 laps both times remember! It's s field with no real mud at the moment just a few tree roots you'll need to keep your eyes open for.

The Ride - 2 laps of 5.5miles.
Cycle Helmets are mandatory.
Unfortunately the race isn't on closed roads so you will have to share the tarmac with everyone else and have to abide by the usual rules of the road, however as we're setting off fairly early on a Sunday morning we shouldn't have too many cars to deal with. This race is a non-drafting race which means that you can't emulate Geraint Thomas and sit behind someone else who's doing all the work. We do not have any motorcycle officials that will be enforcing this rule so we ask that you just play fair and if you find yourself in the 12 meters behind another rider you overtake them.
The route is a simple one, 4 left turns once you get out of the Park - We don't have any strict foot down rules but you do want to be careful getting onto that main road. There is a pedestrian crossing just at the end of each lap which if Red, you MUST STOP. We do have a British Triathlon referee with us and he will disqualify you if you go through that Red light. (But in the 5 times we've done this race I don't know of anyone being stopped by the lights!)

Sunrise is set for 6:37am so we should be ok for light on the ride however it could be prudent for you to chuck on a rear light to your bike just in case. This is totally down to you but I'm sure the extra grams won't impact your time.

Once you're finished we will present you with your medal and goodie bag and then once everyones finished will do the other prizes.

Looking forward to seeing you all bright and early Sunday!

1 week to go until the 3rd Bearbrook Duathlon and there is still time to enter!
The weather today was perfect for a spot of multisport and if the BBC weather forecast is anything to go by it's set to be just as nice next week.
So if you've not signed up yet or know someone you could bully into giving it a go now's the time to sign up, you (or they) won't regret it!
£20 for a competitive timed Run-Bike-Run with finishers medals and a (green) goodie bag.
2miles-12 miles - 2 miles. Easy.
We have a fair few first timers signed up to take on the course this year which is very exciting but I'm also hoping the conditions will help push some of the more experienced athletes close to that 1 hour mark!
Sunday 15th September. 8am start for nice quiet roads!
