Hi all! Long time, no speak! Jon’s still been keeping up the cycling even after the epic challenge has been completed! Having made it all the way to Southern Spain with nothing more than a puncture, very sadly Jon was knocked off his bike on a quiet residential road in Knutsford last Wednesday on his regular cycle home from work. A van was parked up and as Jon went round it, it pulled out without looking, aiming to do a three point turn so cut right across Jon and took him clean out.
Jon has 8 broken ribs, a broken collarbone, a broken wrist and a dislocated shoulder all on the right hand side of his body. He also suffered puncture wounds on his right leg where the van’s indicator smashed into it. He’s also suffered from severe concussion.
Fortunately Jon always wears the full cycling gear and helmet and the doctors told him that if he hadn’t had his helmet on he would have likely suffered severe brain damage.
It will be a long road to recovery and we will keep you posted. Sadly Jon’s beloved Handsling bike took the brunt of the impact and he’s absolutely gutted about that.
A big shout out to Garmin - Anna ( Jon’s wife) and Jon’s dad were alerted to the accident immediately by Jon’s Garmin device texting them with the location of the accident and his Dad made it on the scene before the ambulance - brilliant piece of kit!
