The dramatised account of Armstrong’s life stars Ben Foster as the Texan, and not only charts his rise to the elevated status of seven-time Tour de France winner, but also the battle by journalist David Walsh in publishing the truth behind Armstrong’s success – a comprehensive programme of doping.
A host of stars appear in the film, including Chris O’Dowd as Walsh, on whose book, Seven Deadly Sins, the film is based.
Jesse Plemons plays Armstrong’s former US Postal team-mate turned whistleblower Floyd Landis, Guillaume Canet stars as Dr Michele Ferrari, Lee Pace appears as team boss Bill Stapleton and Dustin Hoffman has a cameo role.
The long-awaited film has The Queen and Philomena director Stephen Frears at the helm.
The film’s creators went to some length to give the film authenticity in its locations, bikes and clothing. Condor Cycles in London was commissioned to recreate the bikes of US Postal, T-Mobile and other teams of the Armstrong era.
Foster also recently revealed that he himself took performance-enhancing drugs to prepare for the role, although he would not reveal which ones.
The Program is officially released on October 16 and has already attracted strong reviews, and the talk is of Foster giving an Oscar-worthy performance as Armstrong.

Writer, broadcaster, cycling activist - Jack Thurston's book of bike rides in Wales and the borders is out this month, and to celebrate he is having a book launch party on Thursday 10 September, at the Station Hotel, Brecon Road, Abergavenny, from 6.30pm-9ish.

Go along, say hello, listen to Tom wax lyrical about how the Welsh invented cycling, and of course, buy a book.

You can read a short preview/extract from the book here: http://issuu.com/jackthur/docs/extract

Here on the Fringe we like to celebrate everything to do with cycling in Abergavenny, it's whats we are about !

This Friday its the turn of the Deri Dash Hill Climb and social with a real Club and community atmosphere - everyone is welcome to ride or just enjoy a drink and some delicious food

Dave James hosts the event on his farm near the top of Pen-y -pound (just follow the road past the Tennis Club and football stadium and keep going) and he is getting excited!

Dave says:

People and businesses' generosity never ceases to amaze me, we have lots of awesome stuff for the raffle and to auction off!

Once again adidas have donated their top of the range eyewear!
Cooks Galley have donated a £50 gift voucher!
Sam Warburton and George Phelps North have signed a Welsh rugby shirt! Stephen Fry has donated a signed Dani King cycle jersey and a £50 Enervit goody bag (recommended by Christine James who used it to get around the Velothon)
And there's lots more, but you'll find out on Friday night.

Now there was even a rumour going around that Geraint Thomas had dropped out of the Nationals to compete, but when he found out that he might have to compete against some of the Welsh rugby team all has gone quiet!

The first of our official gurn judges has been appointed and that is Sophie Bensley, and we'll be appointing another two!

Now there are already some red hot favourites for the prize categories - Fraser Stephens will surely win the most difficult bike to ride up the hill prize, unless we get some surprise contenders?

Surely Richard Bowen is still clearly red hot favourite to set the fastest time, or will his mental preparation be affected after Claire Bowen's nasty fall on chain gang last night - get well soon Claire!

So don't forget the Deri Dash is both ultra competitive and ultra fun, everyone is welcome to take part. The best thing of course is that all the money will go to Tenovus Cancer Care so if you are either coming to compete or coming to watch make sure you have deep pockets filled to the brim!

Hope to see you all on Friday evening.

Thanks

David

To confirm, this year's Deri Dash will take place on Friday 26th June, with the road closure from 5.45pm onwards. The charity we have chosen to support this year is Tenovus Cancer Care.
Alan Haycox has very kindly offered to grace us with his excellent commentary, which will be especially handy as this year there will be some additional prize categories:
For the serious hill climbers there will be prizes for the fastest in each category.
For those who like fancy dress, there will be prizes for the best dressed / best costume (can anyone better Spider-Man?)
For those who like it tough, there will be prizes for most difficult climbing bike (surely that will be a cargo bike?)
And the one I'm looking forward to most, prizes for the best gurn / race face!
There will be the usual hospitality and raffle so if you are attending please come with full pockets.
Any volunteers or prize donations are especially welcome.
Thanks
David James
