A Scottish brand supporting a Scottish race is very much what we had in mind when Trans Caledonia was getting beyond a glint in our co-founders’ eyes. Having on board is the realisation of that.

Like many small, specialist brands, PINND was borne from a high end CNC outfit in Fife. A son of the founder got into bikes and it wasn’t long before thoughts turned to making their own kit on the 5-axis machines that toiled away making parts for medical and other expertise.

Now making hard-hitting supermoto and mountain bike components in small batches at home in Scotland, PINND is the two wheel wing of Contract Solutions Scotland. Tucked away in a quiet, unassuming corner of the Kingdom of Fife, they make some serious kit for some serious applications.

Being keen riders and racers themselves, PINND are the ideal partner for a 6-day enduro like ours, where the longevity of the kit they produce will stand up to multiple days of being battered down Scottish hillsides.

The Scottish trails are drying out nicely right now ahead of the May bank holiday. 

To celebrate the long weekend we've teamed up with the amazing team at @20.twenty.store and as we’ve been out testing the dream tyre setup for the inaugural Trans Caledonia Enduro.

We recently put the Cast Protagonist Hardwall on the front and an Antagonist DualWall on the rear. An ideal blend of grip and braking confidence with the durability to give it the beans when you hit the stages through the course of the six days.

SmartEVO DH compound helps you stick to rock and root, regardless of whether the liquid sunshine makes an appearance. This compound is the cream of the Pirelli crop, being developed alongside the rubber used for their MotoGP tyres.

Hardwall out front is Cast’s lighter weight casing, blending protection and grip, so is ideal for lighter riders at both ends of the bike or, on the front, paired with the DualWall for maximum protection. 

Both Pete and Chris are putting these tyres through the ringer on our own bikes and first impressions are very good indeed.

Happy International Women’s Day!

At Trans Caledonia, we’d love to see more women on the start line year on year, discovering just how capable they are through the challenge and adventure of trans-style racing.

One of our co-founders, , has spent the last four years pushing her limits in this style of racing. Each race has brought its own challenges, but with every one she’s built more grit, resilience, belief in herself and had incredible experiences.

“I’m so proud of what I’ve achieved through these experiences and I’d love to see more women experience that same feeling of pushing through tough moments and the buzz of accomplishment on the final day.”

“The support from so many of the men in this community has also been incredible; making me smile on the hard days, encouraging me on the long climbs, and sharing the whole experience together - no matter your gender.”

Our hope at Trans Caledonia is that year on year we see more women backing themselves and taking on the challenge.

Ahead of this year’s Trans Caledonia, we’ve been out working alongside the legends at giving one of our race stages some well-earned winter TLC.

These trails don’t just appear on race day. They’re built, shaped and cared for by passionate local volunteers who keep Scottish mountain biking thriving all year round.
