Paris 2022 - Sara's first marathon

Paris 2022 - Sara's first marathon Follow my journey to my first marathon: the Marathon de Paris on 3 April 2022. This remains a bucket-list activity, and will be a key fifties activity.

I am more of a lone runner than group runner, but I call on crowd support for this race!

And now it is only 2 weeks away!! It is amazing how time flies!! I have been focussing on the training programme like I have not followed any guidelines before 🙂 and my final longish run was good. Now a tapered programme till 3 April.

Time ticks over fast when you have fun running!!
Discipline is the most important part of this marathon preparation - some days one just roll out of bed and put your shoes on; no thinking!!

Less than 70 days to MdP!!
The training is on schedule - the new Garmin a real boost to track different analytics. Next post I will tell you about tracking progress with the great info on my Forerunner745.
Today I completed the sunday long run of week 6 of 16. What a journey this is!!

The countdown has started! And the training too.

I swopped the Apple Watch for a Garmin, purely because of battery life. But I have to admit, the Forerunner 745 is a runner’s dream and I love the analytics and support. Plus the superior battery life. I do, however, miss the Apple activity rings that tracks your day, and the smooth integration between phone and watch for alarms and timers during the day.

I opted the Garmin Beginner’s Marathon plan, which is a time-based plan. My original training plan was km based. After this morning’s long run I am wondering if I should not go back to km-based measures… or a modification of the Garmin to measure the long runs in km and not time.

Perhaps I give this system one more week before I make the final change-call. The tome-based approach messes with my head, but it may be a good disruption towards inproving fitness.

So while I already cancelled all Paris 2020 running plans, the marathon was at the end, officially cancelled. They say they rather start planning on the 2021 version! Watch this running space!!

I suspect the Paris Marathon will not happen for me in 2020. But, keeping my long term goal, and inbetween ensuring I do have sort term goals, I keep going towards this dream of mine. It is actually amazing and incredible how my fitness have improved over the 60 days since lockdown has been imposed on us in South Africa.

Discipline can be looked at in many ways, one of them is as joyful anticipation another is as a skill. In the online courses we offer you the chance to train...

With the lockdown I am a bit sad and a bit depressed today as I was supposed to do a leg-stretch last run through the streets of Paris this morning, before the Big First Marathon that was supposed to be on Sunday. To add insult to injury the weather prediction is for a perfect Paris day! Instead I ran in just over 2 km in my garden, in the rain. BUT on the flip side, I have not slipped on the training, and will console myself today that it is ok to feel a bit down occasionally.

All apps have been updated, and there is now 217 days till the Marathon de Paris. Enough time to work through two programmes - one to improve the 21km time, and then offf course the second re-do the marathon training programme as one needs additional kilometers on your feet. Rest of March will unfortunately be too busy with work (despite Virus Corona's pandemic havoc) so I will just run, without any formal programme, for happiness, and to stay fit :)

The show goes on... The training programme on the wall will only change next week to a new objective for the next 2 -3 months. So I have a nice hard relatively fast hilly 12 km under the belt for today. The reward will be a delish (and large) bowl of pasta!

And sadly - the Paris Marathon has been postponed till 18 October due to the Corona Virus uncertainty. But safety comes first, so I will indulge in the 'break' and my body will appreciate that I have less kilometers to put on my feet in March. I may just do a slight shift for the next few months and focus on improve the half marathon pace :)
