The 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 puts water at the heart of urban development – connecting water management, spatial planning and climate resilience.

This discussion comes at a time when water resilience is moving higher up the European agenda, including through the European Commission’s new European Water Initiative. For cities, the key question is how this growing policy focus can translate into changes in planning, investment and everyday water management.
At the 𝐄𝐔𝐈 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐋𝐚𝐛 𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, this connection will come to life through city experiences, peer exchange and practical discussions on how to turn ideas into action.

𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬, 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐮𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭. 🇩🇰

On 28–29 October, the 15th EUI Peer Review brought together Tønder (Denmark), the host city, alongside Zadar (Croatia) and Brad (Romania), for two days of peer learning and exchange.

Through interactive discussions, group sessions and study visits, the three cities explored common challenges related to governance, funding, stakeholder engagement, climate resilience, sustainable tourism and mobility. By sharing experiences and practical solutions, they gained new perspectives on their Sustainable Urban Development (SUD) strategies and identified concrete actions to address their local challenges.

The Peer Review also provided an opportunity to discover local initiatives in and around Tønder, learn from other European urban authorities and explore new opportunities for collaboration.

Following the event, the three cities under review will receive personalised reports with recommendations and practical ideas to help them move forward with their urban development strategies.

Lyngby-Taarbæk wants to develop a sustainable food policy to reduce the climate impact of municipal food procurement and encourage more sustainable food habits among its residents.

To find inspiration, the Danish city turned to Bergamo, whose Food Policy Strategy and La Buona Mensa initiative offer practical examples of how cities can promote healthy diets, support local agriculture and reduce food waste.

Through a three-day exchange, Lyngby-Taarbæk explored new approaches to sustainable food systems, including Bergamo’s Good Canteens initiative.

When Stalowa Wola, Poland, requested an EUI Peer Review, it was looking for ways to attract and retain young talent, strengthen its local innovation ecosystem and diversify funding to support its Sustainable
Urban Development Strategy.

🤝 Peers from Jonadi, Italy, and Coimbra, Portugal, shared practical advice: create a Living Lab connecting businesses, universities and citizens; strengthen the city’s brand; build education-business partnerships; and explore new funding sources.

✅ 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Stalowa Wola has submitted several external funding applications inspired by the recommendations received during the Peer Review.
