Today, the European Urban Initiative welcomed cities, practitioners, and urban stakeholders at the EUI stand to exchange on one key question: 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻?

Throughout the day, visitors discovered how cities across Europe are testing, scaling, and transferring innovative solutions through EUI Innovative Actions – from climate adaptation and energy transition to inclusive governance and community engagement.

✨ The stand also became a space for networking, exchange, and new connections between cities facing similar transition challenges across Europe. Visitors explored PORTICO, the EUI knowledge platform, discovering inspiring urban practices, policy insights, and opportunities for collaboration and peer learning 🤝📚

Two inspiring days of peer exchange in the beautiful city of Prague, Czech Republic 🇨🇿✨.

Peer Review 14 brought together cities, experts and practitioners from across Europe to reflect on sustainable urban development strategies and learn from one another!

This edition focused on Prague, Brindisi, Kavala, and the Helsinki Capital Region (Helsinki, Espoo, and Vantaa), each facing its own challenges, ranging from stakeholder engagement and demographic decline to metropolitan cooperation and effective monitoring systems.

This Peer Review combined strategy presentations, breakout discussions with peers, interactive sessions, study visits, and the drafting of concrete recommendations.

💡 Following the Peer Review, cities under review will receive personalised reports with practical recommendations and support to pursue a City-to-City Exchange - a further step toward achieving their goals.

🏙️ Beyond the sessions, it was also about forming connections and creating opportunities for future collaboration.

The EU nature restoration regulation is clear: cities must halt the loss of green spaces and tree canopy cover by 2030 — and increase them steadily after that. Meeting these targets requires skills, tools, and knowledge that many local authorities are still building.
The European Urban Initiative (EUI) is preparing a dedicated capacity building event in 2 parts, designed specifically to help cities and regions turn legal obligations into concrete action:
