Nick Glennie-Smith passed away on Monday, August 17, at the age of 74.
We had the immense privilege of working alongside him for more than fifteen years. Only this winter, Samuel Pegg, , Jérôme Kuhn and Samuel Briand were working with him on the new music for the Cinéscénie at Puy du Fou, a work he had composed himself and never stopped nurturing. Nathan Stornetta , for his part, was at his side on Hans Zimmer’s tour and on the scoring of films such as The Little Prince, Chappie and The Lion King.
Nick was a pure melodic genius. One of that rare breed of musicians able to hold an entire emotion in four notes, and to make you recognise it for the rest of your life. Working with him meant learning something on every take: his rigour, his ear, his generosity, and the very simple way he had of putting the music before everything else.
His music will stay with us forever. It shaped the way we create, and it will keep on doing so.
Thank you for everything, Nick. ❤️
