WICM book group
The next book group will be held on Friday October 2 at 1000 and the book chosen is On Chapel Sands by Laura Cu***ng.
This has been suggested by Tricia Herbert and is a departure from her usual international themes, and instead is based in Chapel St Leonards near Skegness in Lincolnshire on the East coast of England. It is billed as a mystery but that mystery leads to research into her family and what can be termed a family memoir where the author discovers family secrets.

As usual everyone is welcome. It does help to have read the book! Hopefully the weather will be good enough to sit outside.
Tricia will be arranging lunch at the Padel club (the big green building) on the outskirts of the village. It apparently has a very good restaurant. https://www.puntacopadel34.com/copie-de-profs

It could have scuppered the D Day landings, Oasis, Don’t look back in anger musical/documentary on Oasis, Ghost elephants – the national geographic documentary of a naturalist in search of an unknown species of elephant in Angola. WICM - September meeting
I'm sure you don't need reminding of our next WICM meeting which will be on Thursday September 10th at our usual place 'Maison pour tous' at Florensac. We will start at our usual time of 14-30.

As it is our first meeting of the new season we will be entertained by Judy Crozier and Chris Ayling who will sing and play for us. Also finger food and sparkling wine and soft drinks will be available as well as the customary tea, coffee and biscuits.

On this subject, when you arrive on Thursday there will be some more information on informal groups who share the same interests which could be organised by forming a WhatsApp group - so look out for it.

We have also lost our member, Marie who did such a good job of organising Gourmet Girls. I'm sure there must be someone who would like to take this role on - and it could be two people to share the role.

Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Thursday - new members are, of course, very welcome.

to get our new season of visits off to a good start we will visit the Savonnerie in Lodève. For those of you who do not know about this place it is an award winning atelier where they weave the most beautiful carpets - they have a new one in the process at the moment which will be for the Élysée Palace
Here are the details :

Manufacture National de la Savonnerie, 1 Impasse des Liciers, 34700 Lodève
Easy parking.

Date: Thursday September 17th
Time: 10-30.

We will have a guide and the visit will be in English.

Please let Liz know by 11 September is you wish to join.The number of people is limited to 20 and is open to partners and eventually guests. The cost should be 9 Euros per person according to the final number in the group.

Here are the offerings in VO (English) for the week 26 August – 1 September
Just two new films this week, The Dog Stars, a Ridley Scott post apocalyptic film focussed on a pilot living a solitary existence following a major pandemic who follows a mysterious signal of hope; not quite new- Samson and Delilah, an award winning Australian film (2009) about a pair of aboriginal teenagers who steal the community car and go to Alice springs where the girl sees her dot paintings selling for thousands more than she sold them for and is kidnapped by white teens. It is a complex portrait of what it means to be Australian.
True Romance is the golden oldie (1993) and continuing are La Fin d’Oak Street, L’Odysee, Oklahoma Honey, Spiderman and Insidious. Hopefully a better selection after the rentrée!

Three new films this week – Oklahoma honey, a neo western crime thriller about a musician (Matthew McConaughey) who wants to reconnect with his stepdaughter, but the honey business gets in the way – who knew it was so cutthroat?
