A restoration expert visits my French château for the first time to start a quote. He points out what’s original, what needs work, and what I should be ready for.
It’s the beginning of understanding the scale of restoring a 19th-century château: before demo, materials, or furniture purchases clutter the view. His first impressions touch on facades, roofs, and interiors, with some hard truths about what can and can’t be done.
This walkthrough is part of the long journey of bringing Château de la Chevronnais back to life. If you’re interested in historic preservation, château life, or the reality of French restoration, this episode gives a rare look at where it all begins.

This isn’t the most glamorous start to my new château life… and that’s putting it mildly. In this episode, the fairytale gets real: the boiler is spewing black smoke, the toilets are terrifying, and the grime is older than I am. It’s Sunday in rural France, which means everything’s closed… except a pizza vending machine. (Honestly? Not terrible.)

Then the Cavalry arrives, my friends from Australia and Denmark hat I met at Chateau de Lalande a few years back. They are coming to help me get La Chevronnais ready to occupy. Whew!

We end the rainy night sipping champagne from paper cups in a parking lot. Yep that's how I roll!

This is the beginning of a very messy transformation. Let’s GoGo. 💃🍾🧽

Well, I signed the compromis de vente and am officially moving forward with buying a fairytale French château. The 10-day cooling-off period has passed, and this lifelong dream is becoming real!

This moment is the result of years of research, planning, obsession, belief ... and yes, more than a little magic. Including (but not limited to) spellwork, vision boards, visualizations, and a deep knowing that somehow, someday, this would happen.

Back in Atlanta, the pressure is on to finish the final touches on my primary renovation and get the house ready to sell (because let’s face it, I’m gonna need the cash). I fly to Miami for my visa appointment, drive to South Carolina for a driver’s license France will accept, digitize decades of creative work, and start the overwhelming process of packing up my life.

Château de la Chevronnais? A faded 19th-century petit château with serious potential. Not crumbling, not grandiose, just quietly waiting to be brought back to life. By me.

If you follow Château DIY, Château Diaries, The Pethericks, or dream of taking on your own French fixer-upper, I hope we can be friends.

Please consider subscribing and ringing the notification bell — because next week, I’m going back to France. And I just might be getting the keys to La Chev! 🗝️🗝️ Let’s GoGo!

When your awesome new horse trainer friend Sian V Geffray invites you to go with her adorable family to watch her horse race, you dress to represent! Meet her cool AF teen daughter Jasmine (Jazz Hands to me). The caption refers to me as some sort of tech Calamity Jane which we have decided to take as a compliment... There is no shame in my vintage hat, buckle and boot game. Welcome to Rural France!
As always lensed by GOGOSHA OPTIQUE thank you Ruby Elliott, Mama is wearing the vintage western shirt you gave me for Xmas a few years back. Decades old SAINT LAURENT bag and rag & bone jeans.

" Is this my dream French château… or a bottomless money pit? In this week’s episode of GoGo Château, I walk the exterior grounds of Château de la Chevronnais with my potential team to assess what it would really take to restore this fairytale property. From the stables and guardhouse to the event space for future princess parties (yes, really!), I’m weighing every cost, crack, and crumbling cornice".
