đšKobbie Mainoo on his heated conversation with Bruno Fernandes after his costly error against Chelsea:
đŁïž Kobbie Mainoo: âHonestly, I wasnât happy with what happened. It was too cheap, too easy to give the ball away in that position, especially in a game where every mistake can cost you.
âI went straight to Bruno because I expected better from him. Heâs our captain, heâs one of the most experienced players in the dressing room, and heâs someone we look to when things become difficult.
âI asked him, âBruno, what were you thinking? Where was your head? Is this how youâre going to lead us? We cannot keep making these mistakes and expect to win football matches.â
âHe looked at me and said, âKobbie, are you alright? I tried to play the ball across. How can you put all the blame on me?â
âI told him, âYouâre asking how itâs your fault? Bruno, it is your responsibility to recognise the situation. You cannot force that pass and then act surprised when we get punished. Youâre blaming everybody else, but sometimes you need to look at what youâre doing to this team. Wake up, Bruno!â
âHe wasnât happy with what I said, and I could see that. But I wasnât going to pretend everything was fine just because heâs the captain.
âI walked away because I was genuinely frustrated. A player of Brunoâs quality should understand those situations better. We need him to make the right decisions, especially when the team is under pressure.
âIâm not questioning his talent or what he has done for this club. Nobody can take that away from him. But being captain comes with responsibility, and that responsibility doesnât disappear when you make a mistake.
âWe cannot keep talking about wanting to compete with the best teams and then give away possession in dangerous areas. Chelsea donât need invitations to hurt you. Theyâll punish you.
âAfter the incident, we still had to concentrate on the game. There was no time to stand around arguing, but I wanted him to understand how frustrated some of us were.
âI respect Bruno as our captain, but respect doesnât mean keeping quiet when something is wrong. If we cannot challenge each other in the dressing room or on the pitch, then we will never become the team Manchester United are supposed to be.â
