À Cannes, en 2007, Marjane Satrapi avait conquis le Jury avec l’adaptation de Persepolis, sa bande dessinée mondialement célébrée. Témoin de son temps, de l’Iran à la France, la dessinatrice devenue cinéaste avait su, à travers sa fillette de papier, jeter un pont entre sa terre natale et sa terre d’exil, en partageant avec nous ses révoltes, ses espoirs et ses combats.
À l’annonce de sa disparition, Thierry Frémaux a déclaré :
« Grâce à Marjane Satrapi et à son merveilleux Persepolis, l’animation a trouvé de magnifiques lettres de noblesse dans la Compétition du Festival de Cannes. Marjane était une artiste exceptionnelle et une femme profondément attachante, qui incarnait à la fois la joie de la création et la douleur de l’exil, nourrie de mémoires blessées. Nous la pleurons ce matin. »

In Cannes, in 2007, Marjane Satrapi won the Jury over with the adaptation of Persepolis, her internationally acclaimed graphic novel. A witness to her times, from Iran to France, the illustrator-turned-filmmaker built a bridge between her homeland and her land of exile through her paper heroine, sharing with us her revolts, her hopes and her struggles.
Following the announcement of her passing, Thierry Frémaux said:
“Thanks to Marjane Satrapi and her wonderful Persepolis, animation earned a place of distinction in the Competition at the Festival de Cannes. Marjane was an exceptional artist and a deeply endearing woman who embodied both the joy of creation and the pain of exile, shaped by wounded memories. We mourn her passing this morning.”
