En coproduction avec les Rencontres d’Arles, l’exposition « Photoromance » présente le travail du photographe Paul Kodjo, témoin des transformations de la Côte d’Ivoire dans les années 1970, au prisme de son émancipation culturelle.
Paul Kodjo : Photoromance » est la première exposition personnelle d’ampleur du photographe ivoirien Paul Kodjo en France. Figure majeure de la construction d’une culture visuelle ivoirienne postindépendance, il est l’un des premiers photographes africains à avoir exploré le genre du photoroman, non seulement pour son potentiel narratif, mais également pour les possibilités nouvelles qu’offre le langage cinématographique à la création d’images fixes.

In collaboration with the Rencontres d’Arles, the exhibition presents the work of photographer Paul Kodjo, who was a key observer of the Côte d’Ivoire in the 1970s as it underwent a process of cultural emancipation.
“Photoromance” is the first extended solo exhibition dedicated to the work of Ivorian photographer Paul Kodjo in France. A major figure of the country’s post-independence culture, he was among the first African photographers to have explored the genre of the photo-novel (photoroman), taking up its narrative potential and its capacity to transpose the language of cinema into still images.
