BEARMAN is an IRONMAN distance xtreme triathlon (+ 70.3 Distance) which takes place each September in the most southerly valley in France – ‘Le Vallespir’. The Pyrenees and the Mediterranean Sea offer the perfect backdrop for this truly epic event. It is simply one of the most spectacular parts of the world to swim, ride and run. In 2020 the mystical 8 8 4 8 was also created ( a secre

t event held on the same day - and only for Bearman XTri finishers ) . The bear is a thing of legend here in the foothills of the Pyrenees, and ‘Jean de l’Ours’ is the protagonist of local folklore. This mythical half-man half-beast figure is re-incarnated in various events and village festivals throughout the Vallespir. BEARMAN is also an event where everything is laid bare, with no aid stations and no outside support, although fresh water points are indicated ( and there is a bag drop point, plus access to T2 THROUGHOUT THE EVENT. There are also ample helpers out on the course and excellent marking .

2017 was the first ever edition of BEARMAN. The cut-off is 22hrs, Each finisher receives a limited edition finisher’s cycle top (ou Hoodie for thé L'HALF) as well as a Gold, Silver or Bronze medal (1st 50 gold, 2nd 50 silver and 3rd 50 bronze).

2019 saw the addition of a HALF IRONMAN distance event equally as tough but only half the distance :)

2021 began PROJECT 8848 ... ( a mythical event only for BEARMAN XXL finishers) . Anyone who completes this event receives a bespoke locally crafted Catalan knife . EN FRANÇAIS:
BEARMAN est un triathlon XXL - Distance Ironman ( (+ 70.3 Distance) qui se déroulera dans la vallée la plus au sud de la France – « Le Vallespir ». Les Pyrénées et la mer Méditerranée offrent un décor parfait pour cet événement épique. C’est tout simplement un des lieux les plus spectaculaires du monde pour nager, rouler et courir. L’ours est une chose de légende ici dans les contreforts des Pyrénées, et « Jean de l’ours » est le protagoniste du folklore local. Cet ancien mythe du mi_ours mi-homme est réincarné dans divers événements et fêtes de villages dans tout le Vallespir. BEARMAN est également un événement où tout est mis à nu. C’est un triathlon extrême où l’athlète sera totalement indépendant et non pris en charge (sans aucun postes de ravitaillement ni soutien extérieur, bien que les points d’eau seront indiqués, il y aura un seul sac de largage) . Évidemment il y a beaucoup des bénévoles et excellent marquage aux sol .

2017 verra naitre la première édition du BEARMAN. Il faudra accomplir ce parcours en 22 heures ou moins pour devenir un « Ours ». Chaque finisher aura le droit a un maillot de vélo édition limité (Hoodie pour L'HALF)en tant que « finisher du 1er Bearman », mais aussi une médaille d’or, argent ou Bronze (1er 50 d’or, 2eme 50 argent et 3e 50 bronze).

2019 a vu l'ajout d'un événement distance HALF IRONMAN tout aussi difficile mais seulement la moitié de la distance :)

2021 a commencé le PROJET 8848... (un événement mythique réservé aux finishers BEARMAN XXL). Les vrai Couteaux Catalans sont offert pour des finishers.

Dear Bearman Athletes,

For many years, our family « The Laidlow Tribe » Richard, Sam, Jake, and I, have been honored to share the Bearman Xtreme Triathlon journey with so many of you.

Together, we’ve embraced the physical challenges our magnificent Vallespir provided , celebrated many personal triumphs, and forged unforgettable memories. As many of you know this amazing Triathlon life now leads us down a new and exciting path, but one that requires our full attention. This leaves us without the considerable time and energy needed to organize the event to the standard it deserves.

While we are not closing the door entirely, we must pause our efforts for now. Please know that this decision was not made lightly. Your passion, determination, and camaraderie have been the heart and soul of Bearman.

We are deeply grateful for the incredible experiences we’ve shared and the community we’ve built together. Should the opportunity arise to reignite the Bearman spirit, in the future you will be the first to know.

Until then, we carry forward the lessons and friendships that have enriched our lives. Thank you for being part of our Bearman family and for the countless amazing memories.

Et “Félicitations” à tous,

Vous avez accompli quelque chose de vraiment extraordinaire en franchissant la ligne d'arrivée du BEARMAN XTRI 2023 samedi dernier. Peu de gens se lancent dans une aventure aussi exigeante, et vous l'avez fait avec une détermination incroyable. Cette année, marquée par la présence de notre tout nouveau Champion du Monde IM, restera gravée dans nos mémoires.

Nous tenons à exprimer toute notre gratitude envers nos précieux partenaires, les supporters passionnés et les bénévoles dévoués. Sans eux, cet événement n'aurait pas pu avoir lieu. La Vallespir a fourni le cadre parfait pour votre exploit remarquable, où vous avez repoussé vos limites, où votre endurance, votre travail acharné et votre dévouement ont brillé sous les projecteurs du monde entier.
