ODDfest Artist Spotlight: Gone Future (SE)

No one planned a band. Four veterans of the Swedish indie scene: Mats Björke (Mando Diao) , Nicki Dar and Tyra Hasselrot (Dolores Haze) , and Josefin Lyzwinski (Dead Vibrations) came carrying things that had run their course. Then one summer night in 2024, they ended up in a basement near downtown Stockholm with no agenda or expectations. Three songs got written that night before anyone thought twice. Gone Future was born.

Synth rock, kraut and post-punk, monotony colliding with melodic precision. Raw, direct, no filter. A live act to reckon with from the start, with more releases on the way later this year.

ODDfest Curator Intro: Ukko-Pekka Itäpelto

ODDfest’s Chief ODDness Officer / Head of Program, Upi has been building toward this moment for 30+ years through DJ sets, game music, marketing agencies, and festival productions. ODDfest is the manifestation of all of it.

His role is part curator, part architect of atmosphere. With a multitude of ODDfest curators spanning music, arts, film and more, Upi’s job is to knit it all into one multidisciplinary, multi-venue program that functions as a single living artwork. But the deeper mission is something harder to name: creating a liminal space where the boundaries of normal life dissolve. Where it’s no longer clear who is the creator and who is the visitor, who is the teacher and who is the pupil, who is selling and who is buying.

Finland has two ODDnesses to solve: we’re not great at buying creative work, and we’re not great at selling it. ODDfest is his answer to both, at once.

ODDfest Concept Deep Dive: Smell the Art by Katia Los & Adriana Knispel .the.art .ta.ta

What if you’ve only ever experienced half of what art has to offer?

Katia and Adriana believe art shouldn’t stop at the eyes. Their project Smell the Art pairs paintings, photographs and sculptures with perfumes, adding an olfactory layer to visual works to make them more accessible, more vibrant, and more memorable.

The science backs them up: our sense of smell is more closely linked to memory than any other sense. What you encounter through scent, you remember differently. Smell the Art isn’t just a sensory experiment, it’s a new way to experience art.

ODDfest, with its emphasis on creative thinking and collisions between disciplines, is the natural home for exactly this kind of work.
