25. DocPoint oli dokumenttielokuvien juhlaa parhaimmillaan! ✨
Kuusipäiväinen festivaaliviikko piti sisällään useita loppuunmyytyjä näytöksiä, avartavia keskusteluja, pysähtymistä monipuolisten teemojen äärelle, musiikin iloa ja yhteisöllisyyttä.
Festariviikon hittielokuviksi nousivat Ghost Elephants, joka seuraa jättiläisnorsuja etsivää tutkimusryhmää, Oscar-ehdokas Cutting Through Rocks, joka kertoo Iranissa toimivasta moottoripyöräilevästä kätilöstä sekä Move Ya Body: The Birth of House, joka valotti house-musiikin historiaa. Myös yksinäisyyteen Japanissa pureutuva Dear Tomorrow keräsi runsaasti yleisöä.
Festivaalin yllättäviksi yleisön suosikeiksi nousi puolestaan lämminhenkinen kaksikko: Agatha’s Almanac, joka on kuvaus ohjaajan hurmaavasta tädistä ja hänen omavaraisesta elämästään sekä kaurapuuron maailmanmestaruuskilpailuista kertova The Golden Spurtle.
Runsaan elokuvatarjonnan ohella festivaalin juhlavuosi näkyi laajana ja monipuolisena yleisöohjelmana, joka yhdisti elokuvat, musiikin ja keskustelut. Yle Teeman kanssa toteutettu Saimaa-ilmiö-elokuvan ilmaisnäytös täytti salin hersyvällä tunnelmalla, yhteislaululla ja suomirockin yhteisöllisellä hengellä. Kinokonsertti puolestaan kuljetti täyden salillisen katsojia Etelämantereelle South: Sir Ernest Shackleton's Glorious Epic of the Antarctic -elokuvan mukana Kiri Ra!:n säestäessä hyistä matkaa.
Kaiken kaikkiaan DocPoint keräsi dokumenttielokuvien äärelle lähes 20 000 kävijää! Festivaalin rakentuminen on monen eri tahon panoksen summa ja siksi haluamme sydämestämme kiittää kaikkia näytöksissä käyneitä dokumenttielokuvien ystäviä, elokuvientekijöitä, yhteistyökumppaneita, tukijoita, teattereiden työntekijöitä ja ihania vapaaehtoisiamme!

The 25th DocPoint was a week full of celebrating documentary cinema in all its diversity! ✨
The six-day festival week included several sold-out screenings, enlightening discussions, opportunities to pause and reflect on diverse themes, the joy of music and a sense of community.
The festival's hit films included Ghost Elephants, which follows a research team searching for giant elephants, the Oscar-nominated Cutting Through Rocks, which tells the story of a motorcycle-riding midwife working in Iran and Move Ya Body: The Birth of House, which shed light on the history of house music. Dear Tomorrow, which deals with loneliness in Japan, also attracted a large audience.
The surprising audience favourites of the festival were two warm-hearted films: Agatha’s Almanac, which depicts the director’s charming aunt and her self-sufficient life and The Golden Spurtle, which tells the story of the World Porridge Championship.
In addition to the rich selection of films, the festival's anniversary year was celebrated with a wide-ranging audience program that combined films, music and discussions. The free screening of the film The Saimaa Gesture, organised in collaboration with Yle Teema, filled the hall with a lively atmosphere and communal singing. The Kino Concert transported a full house to the South Pole with the film South: Sir Ernest Shackleton's Glorious Epic of the Antarctic, as Kiri Ra! accompanied the chilly journey.
All in all, DocPoint attracted nearly 20,000 visitors to enjoy documentary films and the different events! The festival is the result of the combined efforts of many different parties, and we would therefore like to express our heartfelt thanks to all the documentary film lovers who attended the screenings, the filmmakers, our partners, supporters, theater staff, and our wonderful volunteers!
