“Lo que el TANGO se llevó” arrives at Teatro Talia in Valencia with a tribute to Gardel and Le Pera… and to our senior citizens.
The show will dedicate its performance on Sunday, October 4th, to senior citizens, offering special discounts to celebrate International Day of Older Persons.
VALENCIA — This coming Sunday, October 4th at 12:30 p.m., Teatro Talia in Valencia will host “Lo que el TANGO se llevó,” a show that pays tribute to two of the great myths of tango history, Carlos Gardel and Alfredo Le Pera, through a combination of music, theatre dance, humour, and emotion.
But this performance will also hold a very special meaning.
On the occasion of International Day of Older Person, the show wishes to dedicate this performance to our seniors, recognizing their role as guardians of the memories, stories, songs, and emotions that form part of our culture.
Special discounts will be offered for this occasion, with the goal of making it easier for seniors to enjoy a morning of music and tango at Teatro Talia alongside their families and loved ones.
A tribute to tango and to those who keep memory alive
“Lo que el TANGO se llevó” proposes an imaginary encounter with Alfredo Le Pera in a particular New York loft, where past and present intertwine in a story full of humour, surprising situations, and moments of great emotion.
The show journeys through the creative universe of Gardel and Le Pera through some of their most emblematic songs, performed by musicians, a singer, and dancers.
The show begins with humour and surprise, turning into a true celebration where tango blends with theatrical play and comedy. “Por una Cabeza,” “Sol Tropical,” and “Rubias de NY” are part of this festive journey.
But, as the story progresses, the party gives way to nostalgia.
The second part of the show delves into themes such as loneliness, loss, love, memories, and the passage of time, through songs like “Lejana Tierra Mía,” “Soledad,” “Mi Buenos Aires Querido,” “Cuando Tú No Estás,” and “Cuesta Abajo.”
It is an especially meaningful journey in a performance dedicated to our seniors, for whom many of these songs are part of their own emotional memory.
“Volver”: a song that unites generations
One of the most moving moments comes with “Volver,” when the performance ceases to belong solely to the artists and the audience itself ends up becoming part of the scene.
The song becomes a bridge between generations and a celebration of collective memory.
The show will conclude with “Melodía de Arrabal,” leaving the door open to a reflection: tango does not belong solely to the past. It continues to live because it remains a part of those who listen to it, dance to it, remember it, and pass it on.
A morning to share
With this special performance, “Lo que el TANGO se llevó” also seeks to advocate for the value of sharing culture across generations.
An invitation for parents, children, grandparents, and grandchildren to sit together in a theater and recognize their own memories in the songs of Gardel and Le Pera, or discover them for the first time.
Because there are songs that belong to an era, but there are also songs capable of uniting entire generations.
The performance will feature Juan Esteban Cuacci, Analía Bueti, and the rest of the cast, produced by Berretín de Buenos Aires – Analía Bueti.
Analía Bueti has been honored with the Argentina Country Brand (Marca País Argentina) for her work in spreading tango around the world, while Juan Esteban Cuacci has been recognized as a Distinguished Personality of Culture for his contributions to Argentine culture.
