🌸 Could the Fallas Calendar Be About to Change? Major Proposals Being Considered for 2027
Valencia could be set for one of the most significant changes to the Fallas calendar in recent years.
The Central Fallas Board (JCF) is currently studying a proposal that would see the traditional Offering of Flowers extended to three days and the Plantà of the Fallas monuments brought forward by one day from 2027 onwards.
The proposals are expected to be presented to the JCF plenary during June and, if approved, would then need to be ratified by the Assembly of Fallas Presidents before becoming official.
🌹 A Three-Day Offering?
The biggest change under discussion involves the iconic Offering to the Mare de Déu dels Desemparats, one of the most emotional and important events of the entire Fallas festival.
Under the current format, the Offering takes place on 17 and 18 March. However, the new proposal would extend the event to three days:
📅 16 March
📅 17 March
📅 18 March
The move is aimed at reducing the increasingly long delays that have affected the event in recent years. On several occasions, the final Fallas commissions have not reached the Plaza de la Virgen until after 02:00 in the morning.
With Fallas continuing to grow year after year, organisers are now looking at ways to improve the experience for participants, spectators and residents alike.
🎨 Changes to the Plantà
Alongside the Offering proposal, changes are also being considered for the Plantà schedule.
If approved:
🏗️ Children's Fallas Plantà would move from 14 March to 13 March.
🏗️ Main Fallas Plantà would move from 15 March to 14 March.
The aim is to create a more balanced schedule throughout Fallas week and provide greater flexibility for artists, commissions and organisers.
🏆 Changes to Awards Presentations
Another consequence of the proposed calendar adjustment would affect the Children's Awards Ceremony.
Currently held on the afternoon of 16 March, it would instead take place during the morning, freeing up the afternoon and evening for the first day of the expanded Offering.
📈 Why Are Changes Being Considered?
The main reason is simple: Fallas keeps growing.
Ahead of Fallas 2026, the official Fallas census reached an impressive 128,675 members — around 8,000 more than the previous year. With participation continuing to increase, managing one of Europe's largest festival movements is becoming an ever-greater challenge.
The Offering remains one of the most cherished traditions in Valencian culture, but the sheer number of participants has created logistical challenges that many believe now need addressing.
🤔 A Debate That Will Divide Opinion
As expected, the proposals have already generated considerable debate across the Fallas world.
Some believe a third day is the most practical solution to preserve the quality and dignity of the Offering while reducing the extremely late finishes seen in recent years. Others feel that changing long-established dates could alter the traditional rhythm of Fallas week.
Whatever the outcome, it is clear that Valencia's festival continues to evolve as it grows.
For now, these changes remain proposals rather than confirmed measures, but they could shape the future of Fallas for years to come.
What do you think? Would a three-day Offering improve the experience, or should the traditional schedule remain unchanged?
