YOU'VE PROBABLY BEEN LOOKING AT A DISTORTED WORLD YOUR ENTIRE LIFE. 🌍

Look at Greenland. Now look at Africa.

On the traditional Mercator world map, they can appear surprisingly similar in size.

But in reality?

Africa is approximately 14 TIMES larger than Greenland.

And this week, the conversation around how we represent our planet took a historic turn.

On September 4, the UN General Assembly backed a resolution encouraging the use of world maps that represent the relative size of continents and countries more accurately. 164 countries voted in favour, 6 abstained and only 1 voted against.

But this story made us think about something bigger than geography.

Nothing about Earth changed.

Africa didn't grow.
Greenland didn't shrink.
The borders didn't move.

What changed was the perspective.

And that's powerful.

Because maps, media, history and culture don't just show us the world.

They can shape the way we understand it.

Sometimes we've seen something one way for so long that we stop questioning whether it's the only way to see it.

So we'll leave you with one question:

If changing the map can change how we see the world… what else have we accepted as “normal” simply because that's how we were shown it?

There is no deadline for being yourself. 🌈

Actress Missi Pyle, known for films including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Dodgeball, Galaxy Quest and The Artist, has opened up publicly about dating women at 53.

And beyond the celebrity headline, there’s something worth celebrating here:

Coming out doesn’t have an expiration date.

Some people know who they are from a very young age.
Others understand themselves later.
Some take years to find the words.
And some simply choose to share that part of themselves when it feels right.

There is no timeline. No “too late.” No single way to live your truth.

At 53, Missi Pyle is another reminder that q***r stories don’t only belong to our twenties.

They belong to every chapter of our lives. ❤️

25 YEARS LATER, THEY’RE STILL MARCHING. 🏳️‍🌈

Yesterday, the LGBTQ+ community took to the streets of Belgrade, Serbia, marking 25 years since the city's first Pride.

On June 30, 2001, people gathered in Belgrade under a simple but powerful message:

“There Is Room for All of Us.”

What should have been a peaceful moment of visibility turned into violence. Participants were attacked by far-right groups and football hooligans, more than 40 people were injured, and police protection proved inadequate.

Yesterday, 25 years later, the community marched through Belgrade again.

And this year, they brought back the very same words:

THERE IS ROOM FOR ALL OF US.

A quarter of a century has brought change — but not equality.

Legal recognition of same-sex unions and legislation concerning gender identity remain among the demands of Serbia's LGBTQ+ community.

So this anniversary isn't only about remembering how far we've come.

It's about remembering why Pride still matters.

For those who marched when it wasn't safe.
For those marching today.
And for everyone still fighting to live openly and equally.

🏳️‍🌈 Visibility was never simply given to us. It was fought for.

25 years later, Belgrade is still marching.

✨ Sometimes, that is how community grows: one conversation at a time.

After the friendships, conversations and sense of belonging they found at ELLA last year, Raga D’Silva and Nicola Fenton, co-founders of Older Q***r Voices, are returning to ELLA Festival Mallorca.

Older Q***r Voices creates spaces where older LGBTQ+ people can be seen and heard, while bringing generations together through storytelling, events and meaningful conversation.

This year, Raga and Nicola will join us for a very special conversation on the beach, hosted by Lady Phyll. Raga will also take the stage at ELLA Talks on 2 September with her talk:

“Ageing Disgracefully: Nobody Told Me”

Because older LGBTQ+ people are not here simply to represent our history. They are continuing to create, change, fall in love, build friendships, take risks and play an active role in shaping the future of our communities.
