📌✉️ Dear friends,
After six editions at the helm of Manlleu Film Festival, we, as a team, have submitted our resignation to the Manlleu City Council, the organizing institution of the festival. We want to thank the previous local governments for the trust placed in us and in this project over these years.
It has been six years in which we have been able to work side by side with a team of extraordinary people, with a commitment and dedication to this project like no other.
Together, we have promoted a festival that focused on supporting new talent, both local and national, the local industry, and at the same time, brought the international short film cinema to the audience in an accessible, popular, and outdoor event.
We also want to express our deepest gratitude to all the people who have been part of this adventure. Directors, producers, distributors, City Council workers, and other agents in the sector: thank you for your passion and your unconditional support. We feel fortunate to have shared this journey with you.
Unfortunately, differences with the City Council regarding the future of the festival and the lack of harmony to continue growing it at the pace the festival needs, have pushed us to make this decision.
As of today, the future of the festival itself is uncertain. Based on the information we have from the City Council, we don’t know what will happen to the festival in the near future and we can only confirm that there will be no Manlleu Film Festival in 2024.
Finally, we urge the current government to make a clear commitment to the MFF in the coming years. The city cannot afford to lose a festival with 21 years of history.
The Manlleu Film Festival must continue to be a meeting place and a discovery of new cinematography, and, more importantly, it must continue to be an artistic window to the world. We trust that new visions and energies will be able to lead the festival towards a bright and promising future.
With all our affection and gratitude,
Èric Motjer, director
Júlia Parés, head of production
Ingrid Ferrer, head of communication
