Después de nuestro debut en Holanda, teníamos que venir a España para también traeros el mejor hard trance de la época dorada de la música electrónica, los años 90.

Prepararos porque el sábado 29 de noviembre os traemos un evento muy exclusivo para dar comienzo a nuestro movimiento en la capital. Un evento solo a vinilo lleno de los mejores discos de hard trance.

One track changed everything. In 1992, Franky Jones, as part of Jones & Stephenson, unleashed “The First Rebirth,” an anthem that reshaped rave culture. More than three decades later, its emotional power and raw energy still tear dancefloors apart across the globe every weekend. It stands as one of the most influential releases in the history of electronic music and a cornerstone of the legendary Bonzai Records legacy.

Franky Jones is now four decades deep into his career. A true Belgian pioneer who helped define The Sound of Belgium, evolving from the early 80s currents of new wave and new beat into the explosive power of hard trance and hardcore.

Across the 90s golden era, Franky pushed dance music to its absolute outer limits. His sets became journeys, wild, unpredictable, relentless. He tore up the world’s most iconic raves like Mayday, Thunderdome, Mysteryland, Love, etc. The list is endless. Few artists carry this kind of legacy.

Franky is coming to Arnhem with a full three-turntable assault for our first edition. Expect pure 90s hard trance delivered by one of the true masters of the craft. No gimmicks, no shortcuts, just razor-sharp mixing and the unmistakable energy of a DJ who defined an era.

The Story of D.Trance — The Sound of a Generation

Halfway through the 90s, when techno, hardcore and trance ruled Europe’s underground and raves like the Love Parade drew hundreds of thousands of ecstatic ravers to the streets, one amazing compilation started to gain traction, the name was D.Trance

Back then, there were no streaming platforms, if you wanted the latest tracks, you had to buy the CDs, swap them with friends, or hear them blasted at parties. Amid this raw, analogue energy, three visionaries: Gary D., Marcel Ewald, and Ecki Stamer, crossed paths one fateful night in Hamburg’s legendary Voila (EFEX) club. The chemistry was instant, they had the same idea of what kind of music they wanted in the compilation. And that's how D.Trance was born.

Launched under the DJs Present label in 1995, which initially was a sub-label of PIAS Recordings Germany, D.Trance quickly captured the essence of the German hard trance sound. The very first volume dropped in November 1995, packed with euphoric synths, pounding kicks, and the unmistakable sound of mid-90s hard trance. The response was so explosive that pressing plants couldn’t keep up with demand, with copies flying off the shelves faster than they could be produced. By 1996, D.Trance Vol. 3 skyrocketed to #4 in the German sampler charts, cementing its place in electronic music history.

Over the years, D.Trance became a launchpad for countless artists who shaped the harder and more melodic side of trance: DJ Gollum, Mellow-D, Commander Tom, Nostrum and Gary D himself and many more. Even today, those iconic covers and anthemic mixes transport fans straight back to the heart of the 90s rave revolution.

Every edition of D.Trance, had two CDs which were plain music, and one that contained a mix by Gary D himself with some of the tracks from the edition. Unfortunately, Gary D passed away in 2016, but his music and D.Trance compilations live on forever. During Hard Trance Alliance: The First Rebirth on the 14 of November, (gabberizer) (DJ PulseX) will perform a tribute to the first four D.Trance CDs.

ONE SCENE, TWO SOUNDS: HOW HARD TRANCE AND HARDCORE GREW TOGETHER

Hard trance and hardcore come from the same roots. Around 1993–1995, both genres were deeply intertwined, with labels like Bonzai Records pioneering the sound. Around that time, the two styles shared the same DNA: fast tempos, pounding 909 kicks, acidic basslines, and an obsession with driving dancefloors to their absolute limit. During those years, it was common to hear hard trance artists playing at hardcore events like Thunderdome or Mayday. Bonzai releases would often blend seamlessly into early Rotterdam tracks within the same DJ sets. The main difference was in the approach: hardcore pushed distortion and aggression to the extreme, while hard trance channelled the same energy into soaring melodies and euphoric synths.

Listening back to those early records makes it clear that hard trance wasn’t a completely separate movement, it was part of the same story. Tracks like Jones & Stephenson – The First Rebirth, often labelled as hardcore anthems, are in truth more aligned with hard trance. Artists like Hardsequencer and DJ Hooligan played their hard trance productions at gabber events in front of thousands of gabbers, and figures such as Scott Brown mastered both sounds. Similarly, Rexanthony became a legend in both worlds, crafting brutal hardcore bangers like For You Marlene and Cocoacceleration alongside hard trance masterpieces such as Capturing of Matrix, Polaris Dream, and Pyramid Power.

In the end, hard trance and hardcore are two sides of the same coin, born from the same underground sound, sharing the same machines, clubs, and spirit. To truly understand the energy of the early 90s rave movement, you can’t separate one from the other; they evolved together, and both kept the heart of the 90s rave scene alive.
