Help At Hand Spain Consultancy service - moving to or living in Spain? Visas NLV, DNV, EU/Non EU, Family of Spanish, Residency, TIE, NIE

I was born in Spain and lived in the UK for 21 years. I understand all the frustrations people from abroad coming to Spain can encounter. I have experienced this myself having to do all the necessary paperwork for my house, car, insurances, driving licences, NIE/TIE registrations, passports, and residency for my family. Fluent in Spanish and English I'm able to help if you live in Spain now, or you are planning to come from another country. What better way to help than me personally leading you through it all step by step.

🎉 **WHAT AN AMAZING OCTOBER! 🇪🇸**

As October comes to an end, we’re taking a moment to celebrate what has been a fantastic month at **Help at Hand Spain!** ❤️

It’s been a busy one, and we’re delighted to have helped so many people take another step towards their dream of living in Spain.

Here are just some of our October successes:

✅ **20 NLV renewal approvals** – 20 more people able to continue enjoying life in Spain!

✅ **3 NLV consulate approvals** – another three steps closer to making Spain home in the UK and USA.

✅ **3 new NLV consulate appointments** secured in the UK and USA.

✅ **BLS appointments in Los Angeles** successfully booked today for a couple of our clients – sometimes getting that appointment is a victory in itself!

🏡 **5 families helped to find rental accommodation in Málaga**, bringing them one step closer to settling into their new lives here.

We absolutely love being part of these journeys. Whether it’s visas, residency renewals, consulate appointments or helping families get settled, we’re here to make the process easier.

At Help at Hand Spain, it’s **not just about the paperwork** – it’s about the people, the support and helping you make your dream of living in Spain a reality.

A huge thank you to all our clients for trusting us. We couldn’t do it without you! 🥰

🇪🇸 **A LITTLE SPANISH HOLIDAY REMINDER!**

Sunday, 1st November, is **Día de Todos los Santos (All Saints’ Day)**, a national public holiday in Spain.

It’s a traditional day when families remember and honour loved ones who have passed away. Many people visit cemeteries, take flowers to family graves and spend time remembering those who are no longer with them. 🌹

So, if you’re in Spain this weekend, you’ll notice a slightly different pace as families observe this special day.

🇪🇸 **MOVING TO SPAIN? ALREADY HERE? PLANNING YOUR PERMANENT RESIDENCY? READ THIS!** 🇪🇸

☀️ Whether you're applying for your **first Non-Lucrative Visa (NLV)**, renewing your residency, or preparing to apply for **permanent residency in Spain**, there are some very important rules you need to understand!

Many people assume that having a visa or TIE card means they can come and go as they please. Unfortunately, it isn't quite that simple! ⚠️

📌 **1️⃣ NLV RENEWALS – THE 183-DAY RESIDENCY RULE**

For an NLV renewal, you must generally have genuinely lived in Spain for **more than 183 days during the calendar year**. Simply holding a valid TIE card isn't enough.

📌 **2️⃣ TAX RESIDENCY – ANOTHER IMPORTANT 183-DAY RULE! 💶**

The 183-day rule for tax residency is NOT the same as the 183-day requirement for your NLV renewal.

Spain generally considers you a tax resident if you spend more than 183 days in Spain during a calendar year. However, you may also be considered a Spanish tax resident if your main centre of economic interests is in Spain, or in certain circumstances involving your spouse and dependent minor children.

👉 Becoming a Spanish tax resident can mean having to declare your worldwide income in Spain, subject to applicable tax rules and double-taxation agreements.

Don't assume that staying for fewer than 183 days automatically means you are not a Spanish tax resident!

📌 **3️⃣ PERMANENT RESIDENCY – THE 10-MONTH RULE 🗓️**

If you're working towards long-term residency after five years, you need to pay close attention to your travel dates.

For the usual five-year continuous legal residence route, absences from Spain generally must not exceed **six consecutive months** and **ten months in total over the five-year period**.

📌 **4️⃣ KEEP YOUR PAPERWORK AND TAX AFFAIRS IN ORDER! 📂**

✔️ Keep records of your entries and exits from Spain.

✔️ Understand your tax obligations and whether you need to file Spanish tax returns.

✔️ Make sure your health insurance and financial means meet the requirements for your residency.

✔️ Check your renewal dates and plan ahead.

✔️ Don't leave it until the last minute to find out whether your time outside Spain could affect your application.

💙 **At Help at Hand Spain, we help you understand the rules and navigate the paperwork.**

Whether you're applying for your first NLV, renewing your residency, or preparing for permanent residency, getting the right advice early can save you unnecessary stress and complications later.

📞 We offer a **FREE 20-minute consultation** to discuss your situation.

⭐ You can also take a look at our client reviews and see how we've helped others with their move to Spain.

✨ **Dream - Make it happen - Relax.** Let us help you make your life in Spain a little easier!

🎉 October 12th is Spain’s National Day — Día de la Hispanidad.

This date marks the arrival of Christopher Columbus to the Americas in 1492, a moment that forever linked Spain with Latin America and shaped centuries of shared history, culture, and language.

🇪🇸 For Spaniards, it is a day of national pride and unity, celebrated with military parades, cultural events, and official ceremonies across the country. It’s a reminder of Spain’s history and its place in the world today.

🌎 For Latin Americans, October 12th carries a more complex meaning — it symbolizes the start of cultural exchange, but also of colonization. In many countries it is remembered as the Day of Indigenous Resistance or Day of Cultural Diversity, honoring native peoples and the richness of mixed identities that emerged.

💡 No matter the perspective, October 12th is a day that reminds us of the deep historical ties and shared heritage between Spain and Latin America — connections that still live on through language, traditions, and family bonds.

⚠️ Remember: it is also a public holiday in Spain, so government offices, consulates, and banks will be closed. If you’re processing visas or residency paperwork, make sure to plan your appointments accordingly.

📩 Need help planning your relocation or residency process? We’ll guide you every step of the way.

🇪🇸 Why should I register on the Padrón in Spain?

This is a question I get asked a lot by my clients, so I thought I’d give you a quick and simple explanation. 😊

🏠 What is the Padrón?

The Padrón Municipal is the local register of people living in a particular town or municipality in Spain. It is maintained by your local town hall (Ayuntamiento) and helps the authorities keep an accurate record of how many people live in the area.

❓ Do I have to register on the Padrón?

If Spain is your usual place of residence, you are generally required to register on the Padrón at your local town hall.

For example, if you live in Spain for more than six months a year, registering on the Padrón is an important part of establishing your residence here.

🔄 IMPORTANT: Don’t forget to renew!

There is something else that many foreign residents don’t realise.

If you are a non-EU citizen without long-term residence status, your Padrón registration must generally be renewed every two years.

Your Ayuntamiento may contact you when it is time to renew your registration. Don’t ignore the letter! If you don’t complete the renewal within the required period, your Padrón registration can be declared expired and you may be removed from the municipal register.

This two-year renewal requirement does not apply in the same way to everyone. For example, EU citizens and certain other foreign residents, including those with long-term residence, are not subject to the same automatic two-year renewal requirement, although the Ayuntamiento can carry out periodic checks to confirm that you still live there.

🌟 What are the benefits of registering?

Being registered on the Padrón can be important for both you and your local community.

For foreigners living in Spain, your Padrón registration can be useful or required for things such as:

✅ Applying for certain types of residency
✅ Accessing local services and healthcare where applicable
✅ Enrolling children in local schools
✅ Applying for a Spanish driving licence
✅ Registering a vehicle in Spain
✅ Accessing certain local benefits or discounts
✅ Participating in local elections when you are eligible
✅ Providing proof of residence when required

There are also many situations where you may be asked for a Padrón certificate, for example when dealing with immigration procedures, importing a vehicle or proving how long you have been living in Spain.

📌 One important point: Being registered on the Padrón does not by itself give you legal residency or immigration status. It is simply the municipal register of residents, although your registration can be an important document in many residency and administrative procedures.

I hope this makes it a little clearer why registering on the Padrón is an important step for people who come to Spain to live. 🇪🇸❤️

🇪🇸 **LIVING IN SPAIN? THIS COULD MAKE LIFE A LOT EASIER!** 💻🔑

If you live in Spain, own property here, work remotely, receive rental income or simply need to deal with Spanish administration, a **Spanish Digital Certificate** can save you a LOT of time, appointments and paperwork! 🙌

So, what can you actually use it for?

✅ Access Tax Agency services and submit tax returns
✅ Access Social Security information and documents
✅ Obtain official certificates and documents
✅ Deal with Town Hall and regional government services
✅ Access DGT services, including driving licence information and fines
✅ Receive official government notifications
✅ Sign documents electronically
✅ Complete many government procedures online — without having to visit an office!

And what about **Cl@ve**? 🤔

Cl@ve is another way of identifying yourself online when dealing with Spanish public administration. You may have heard of Cl@ve Móvil, Cl@ve PIN or Cl@ve Permanente.

They aren't exactly the same as a Digital Certificate, and depending on what you need to do, one may be more useful than the other.

🇪🇸 **The good news?**

You don't have to figure it all out on your own!

At **Help at Hand Spain**, we help international clients obtain and set up their Spanish Digital Certificate and Cl@ve, with personalised support in English.

From the application and identity verification through to downloading, installing and setting everything up, we can help make the process much simpler and less stressful. 💛
