Pozo Azul 2022

Pozo Azul 2022 The goal of this year's expedition is to survey the various Razor passages and further explore Sump 6
(1)

Pozo Azul is currently the longest cave dive penetration in the world. The 9.550km+ of diving required to reach the furthest point (11.470km) from the single entrance is accumulated over 5 sumps, the longest of which is 5160m. Sumps 2 and 3 are actively linked and are in fact one long sump of more than 8km in length.

Preparations are already underway for our second exploration in July / August 2023. If Corona does not interfere again and everyone is healthy, we will try to implement the goals of 2022 in the first week of August. Fortunately, all participants of 2022 will be there again.
For those interested we have created a new FB page. Every follower, comment or even a like makes us very happy.

Exploration Pozo Azul 2022
The video shows the whole Sump 2 for the first time.
Sump 2 has a length of 5160m and a depth of 70m
Kris Robbroeckx accompanied me on this dive. Respect!
I edited some of it out. But because of the length of the sump, it's still pretty long.
Have fun watching..

The processing of the many photos and the film files takes a lot of time. I take the liberty to upload them here from time to time. Unfortunately, I can upload the film of S2 only on Tuesday, September 19. At the moment I have exceeded my limit with the film about the dive in the Durzon...
I start with pictures from Razor Camp

08/09/2022

After a long journey home and a short car breakdown, I finally get to write a first short report.
As I have already written, Günter fell seriously ill with Corona and is still not 100% cured.
Therefore I decided, despite some rain showers in the previous days, to try it on Tuesday alone to push the S6.
Kris accompanied me in the S2 to Tiperrary and helped me to carry the material into the S3.
Many thanks for that Kris!
Afterwards Kris dived back alone and I dived further through S3 to Razor Camp.
I reached the camp in the evening without any problems and immediately started to set up the camp.
Up to here everything worked perfectly. Also the passive Caymano chestmount rebreather worked perfectly.
The following day, the material was transported through the Razor Passage.
This required several passes. That same day I took a few more photos and then went to bed early.
On the third day, I got up early and went through Razor Passage to S4. That's when I noticed that the two electronic displays that had worked flawlessly the day before were now dead.
During transport through the Razor Passage, about 1 liter of water must have entered the unit, destroying the electronics overnight.
I suspect that the overpressure valve of the Caymano in the transport bag was crushed by other material, allowing water to get in during the swim sections.
I was devastated.
So carried everything back and started packing the first dry tube.
The next day I cleaned up the camp and dived to Tiperrary.
It took some time to transport the equipment to the S2 and so I spent another night in Tiperrary to dive out on Friday.
I expected that my friends outside would be disappointed. But everyone was happy that I was back in good health and plans were soon made for next year.
With the new knowledge from this expedition Günter and I will be able to prepare even better.
And Günter we put in quarantine one month before.....
Thanks to all who supported me during these days!
A detailed report and some photos and movies will follow.... Kris Robbroeckx Joseph Carl Schützenhofer Philipp Schneider Alexander Karst Laurent Miroult Niko Gerdau Jolanda Spronck

And again we had several heavy rains and even thunderstorms nearby. Therefore, we have postponed the dive from today to tomorrow. Since we have little experience how the system reacts, we go today to see if all material is still un S2 and whether the current is swollen. Unfortunately the weather doesn't look ideal today either. The diving is probably not a problem but I'm a bit worried about the "Razor Passages".

Slowly I approach my destination. My thoughts are with Günter who unfortunately cannot accompany me due to a strong corona disease and with our diving colleague who has been missing for two days while cave diving in Croatia.
