Narges Mohammadi, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, who participated in the opening of the 22nd Barcelona Human Rights Film Festival through a special video and the screening of her film, The White Torture, has been brutally arrested by Iranian authorities.
Narges Mohammadi was unable to travel to Barcelona because Iranian authorities are withholding her passport, so her husband, Taghi Rahmani, attended in her place.
The arrest took place in the city of Mashhad while Narges Mohammadi was peacefully demonstrating to demand justice for the death of Iranian human rights lawyer Khosrow Alikordi, who was found dead under suspicious circumstances earlier this month.
The Barcelona Human Rights Film Festival and its organizing body demand her immediate release, an end to the persecution of human rights defenders and fundamental freedoms, and unrestricted respect for freedom of expression and assembly.
