Egypt’s electricity and power sector is one of the most dynamic in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, with significant investments in renewable energy, grid modernization, and capacity expansion. The country has achieved near-universal electrification (100% urban and 99.4% rural access) and is positioning itself as a regional energy hub. The total installed capacity reached 59.5 GW in 2023, with renewables accounting for 20% of the energy mix, supported by mega-projects like the Benban Solar Park (1.8 GW) and wind farms in the Gulf of Suez. The government aims to increase renewable energy’s share to 42% by 2035, attracting over $20 billion in investments in solar, wind, and green hydrogen projects.
