On the International Day of Education, we remember the children of Gaza who are returning to school after two years of relentless bombardment.
According to UNICEF, more than 97% of Gaza’s schools have been damaged or destroyed, denying approximately 658,000 children the right to regular, in-person education.
Many displaced children are learning in makeshift classrooms, sitting on the ground in fragile freezing tents without books or basic learning materials. Yet parents, teachers, and students alike continue to demonstrate courage and determination in not allowing the relentless violence and abuse rob them of learning in any form.
On this day we appeal to the world of education, to protect and preserve it for the children of Gaza.
