We were honored to host the Study Day on Science and Sustainability last Sunday at the Biology Library of University of Batna 2, on the occasion of World Migratory Bird Day, celebrated annually on May 10th. Birds are well known as important indicators of environmental quality and ecosystem health, playing a vital and effective role in maintaining ecological balance and biodiversity. This scientific event represented a rich and fruitful opportunity for scientific exchange and constructive discussions.
We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Mohammed Khalil Mellal from the Research Center in Agri-food Technologies of Bejaia, and to Dr. Rassim Khelifa from Concordia University, for their valuable presence, for dedicating their time to participate in this scientific event, and for the remarkable scientific enrichment they brought to our university community, particularly to the field of biology, through their inspiring presentations and high-quality research work, which opened new perspectives for discussion and reflection among students and researchers.
It was especially a pleasure to meet Master’s and PhD students, as well as researchers working on related topics, alongside colleagues from the Belezma National Park and various institutions. The posters, presentations, and discussions among researchers, students, and participants contributed to creating a positive and stimulating scientific atmosphere throughout the day.
Dr. Mohammed Khalil Mellal also delivered a presentation on explainable artificial intelligence and wildfire susceptibility mapping in Mediterranean ecosystems, a highly important and timely research topic for Mediterranean regions. His presentation highlighted the importance of integrating modern technologies and artificial intelligence into environmental risk prediction and the development of effective strategies for wildfire prevention and mitigation, with the aim of protecting ecosystems and biodiversity. It also opened promising perspectives regarding the role of intelligent modeling and environmental data analysis in sustainability and natural resource conservation.
I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to Professor Rassim Khelifa for his valuable time and contributions, and for leading an exceptional workshop that was among the highlights of this event and highly appreciated by participants. His presentation on the applications of the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) in bioconversion and fertilizer production sparked deep discussions about how different societies perceive the integration of insects into future food systems, adding important psychological, historical, and cultural dimensions to the event.
We also extend our sincere thanks to the organizers, to Dean Professor Youcef Brahim El Hadj, to Abdelkrim Sibachir, and to the entire team for their excellent organization and warm hospitality throughout the event.
We also express our deep appreciation to the event sponsors, N'gaous Jus et Conserves and Eurl Exosafe, for their valuable support and contribution to the success of this scientific day.

تشرفنا باستضافة اليوم الدراسي حول العلوم والاستدامة هذا الأحد المنصرم بجامعة باتنة 2، بمكتبة البيولوجيا، وذلك بمناسبة اليوم العالمي للطيور المهاجرة الذي يصادف 10 ماي من كل سنة. والطيور، كما هو معلوم، لها مكانة مهمة في البيئة، إذ تُعدّ مؤشرًا على نقاوة الوسط البيئي، كما تمثل عنصرًا مهمًا وفعّالًا في الحفاظ على التوازن البيئي. وقد شكّل هذا اليوم العلمي لحظة ثرية ومثمرة للتبادل والنقاش العلمي البنّاء.
كما نتقدّم بخالص الشكر والتقدير إلى الأستاذ الباحث الدكتور محمد خليل ملال من مركز البحث في تكنولوجيات التغذية بولاية بجاية، وإلى الدكتور رسيم خليفة من جامعة كونكورديا بكندا، على حضورهما القيّم وتخصيصهما الوقت للمشاركة في هذا اليوم العلمي، وعلى ما قدّماه من إثراء علمي مميز لوسط جامعتنا ولمجال البيولوجيا خاصة، من خلال مداخلاتهما وأعمالهما البحثية الراقية والشيّقة ذات القيمة العلمية الكبيرة، والتي فتحت آفاقًا جديدة للنقاش والتفكير لدى الطلبة والباحثين المشاركين.
وكان من الجميل بشكل خاص اللقاء بطلبة الماستر والدكتوراه والباحثين الذين يشتغلون على مواضيع مشابهة، إلى جانب الزملاء القادمين من الحظيرة الوطنية بلزمة ومن مختلف المؤسسات. وقد ساهمت الملصقات والعروض والنقاشات بين الباحثين والطلبة والمشاركين في خلق أجواء علمية إيجابية طوال اليوم.
كما قدّم الأستاذ الباحث الدكتور محمد خليل ملال مداخلة حول الذكاء الاصطناعي القابل للتفسير ورسم خرائط قابلية اندلاع حرائق الغابات في النظم البيئية المتوسطية، وهو موضوع يكتسي أهمية خاصة في مناطق البحر الأبيض المتوسط، ويُعدّ من الدراسات الحديثة ذات الأهمية الكبيرة. وقد أبرزت المداخلة أهمية توظيف التقنيات الحديثة والذكاء الاصطناعي في التنبؤ بالمخاطر البيئية والمساهمة في وضع استراتيجيات فعّالة للوقاية من حرائق الغابات والتقليل من آثارها على النظم البيئية والتنوع البيولوجي. كما فتحت هذه المداخلة آفاقًا واعدة أمام الباحثين حول دور النمذجة الذكية وتحليل المعطيات البيئية في خدمة الاستدامة وحماية الموارد الطبيعية.
وأتقدّم بجزيل الشكر إلى الأستاذ رسيم خليفة على وقته وإسهاماته، وعلى تأطيره لورشة عمل استثنائية كانت من أبرز محطات هذا الحدث وحظيت بتقدير كبير من المشاركين. كما أثارت مداخلته حول تطبيقات ذبابة الجندي الأسود (BSF) في التحويل الحيوي وإنتاج الأسمدة نقاشات عميقة حول نظرة المجتمعات المختلفة إلى إدراج الحشرات ضمن النظم الغذائية المستقبلية، وهو ما أضفى على اللقاء بعدًا نفسيًا وتاريخيًا وثقافيًا مهمًا.
كما نتوجّه بالشكر الخالص إلى المنظمين، وإلى عميد الكلية الأستاذ يوسف إبراهيم الحاج، وإلى عبد الكريم سي بشير، وإلى كامل الفريق على حسن التنظيم وكرم الاستقبال طيلة الفعالية.
ونعرب كذلك عن امتناننا العميق لرعاة الحدث، N'gaous Jus et Conserves و Eurl Exosafe، على دعمهم القيّم ووقفتهم في إنجاح هذا اليوم العلمي.
