Get • Las Terrenas doesn’t just feed you… it introduces itself through food.
In this episode of The Secret Is Samaná, we explore the streets and the shoreline to discover
why in the Dominican Republic, street food and beach food are often the same thing—fresh,
flavorful, and deeply connected to everyday life.

This is Las Terrenas the local way:
🌴 Beachside eats with real Dominican rhythm
🌴 Street grills, quick bites, and bold flavors
🌴 Coconut, spice, and coastal culture in every meal
🌴 Ordinary people serving food that tells the story of the town

This episode is vibrant, unfiltered, and rooted in a simple truth:the best meals aren’t always in restaurants… they’re in the hands of the people.

Special thanks to the Alma Film Festival, a valued collaborator supporting this cultural docutravel series as we share stories tourists often miss.

About the Alma Film Festival

The Alma Film Festival is a tech-driven international film festival and cultural platform created to address structural gaps in the global film industry, particularly those that limit access, visibility, and opportunity for filmmakers across the Global South

By combining cinema, scholarship, technology, and global collaboration, the festival creates a space where filmmakers, industry leaders, and audiences can engage in deeper dialogue about the future of storytelling and the evolving creative economy.

Through curated screenings, industry conversations, and cross-border partnerships, the Alma Film Festival works to connect emerging and established filmmakers from Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and diaspora communities around the world.

Guided by our Six Pillars of Purpose — Conversation | Connection | Community | Collaboration | Cultural Diplomacy | Collective Growth, the festival seeks to cultivate meaningful relationships that expand opportunities for filmmakers and strengthen the global cinematic ecosystem.

“In everything we do, we aim to spark conversations that cultivate meaningful connections and strengthen our sense of community. From this shared foundation, we hope to inspire greater collaboration, leading to cultural diplomacy and collective growth.”

The Alma Film Festival announces the official selection of A Cry From the Forest, directed by Cameroonian filmmaker Lynno Lovert, as part of its 2026 program spotlighting Global South storytelling and environmental cinema.

Set within an indigenous forest community, the film unfolds after destructive exploitation results in the death of a sacred forest oracle—leaving the community spiritually fractured and physically vulnerable to disease. As foreign explorers and commercial interests encroach upon sacred land, a young indigenous girl must accept her calling as the new oracle. In doing so, she confronts not only outside forces but her own father, who is complicit in the forest’s destruction.

Through mythic structure and contemporary urgency, Duct-Tape: A Cry From the Forest interrogates the cost of environmental extraction, the fragility of ancestral knowledge systems, and the burden placed upon the next generation to protect what remains sacred.

The film will screen as part of a carefully curated selection of works representing bold cinematic voices from across Sub-Saharan Africa, thoughtfully assembled by Elvis Buminang, Karl Safindah, and the editorial team at Between Takes Magazine. This block continues Alma’s commitment to presenting African cinema not as a monolith, but as a dynamic, multilayered cultural force engaging ecological, political, and spiritual questions.

Anthony R. Page, Founder of the Alma Film Festival, notes:
“At Alma, we are committed to stories that expand the global cultural conversation. Duct-Tape: A Cry From the Forest reminds us that land is not simply property—it is memory, medicine, and meaning.”

The screening will take place during Alma’s March 17–22, 2026 edition in Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic—a destination-based festival designed to cultivate deeper dialogue between filmmakers and audiences. In alignment with the festival’s Six Pillars of Purpose—Conversation, Connection, Community, Collaboration, Cultural Diplomacy, and Collective Growth—this selection underscores Alma’s dedication to cinema rooted in cultural intelligence and social responsibility.
