TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design - and invites the world’s leading thinkers and doers to present their latest “Ideas Worth Spreading.” It was first held in 1984 as an annual event in California, afterwards TED was acquired from its founder, Richard Saul Wurman, in 2001

Chris Anderson’s Sapling Foundation and developed into a multi-media/experience platform. Past speakers include Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Ray Kurzweil, Paola Antonelli, Frank Gehry, Sheryl Sandberg, Gordon Brown, Dan Ariely, and Bono. In the spirit of "Ideas Worth Spreading," TED created the TEDx platform -
where x stands for "independently organized TED event" - empowering people around the world to organize their own events and unite their communities in a TED-like experience, under TED’s guidance.
