Copenhagen Sakura Festival

Copenhagen Sakura Festival The Copenhagen Sakura Festival is an entirely volunteer based NPO. Welcome! The donated trees were planted in Langelinie Park. Mr. Andersen痴 birthday in 2005.

Every spring families, friends, and curious are welcome to Langelinie Park to gather under the cherry blossoms and experience Japanese cultural performances, food and traditions. The Committee of the Copenhagen Sakura Festival was established in February, 2008 to arrange the cultural event Copenhagen Sakura Festival with the help of the Japanese Embassy in Denmark, the Municipality of Copenhagen a

nd other Japan-related cultural and private organizations. The original idea came from the noble deed of donation of 200 cherry blossom (Sakura) trees by Mr. Seiichi Takaki, President of Andersen Institute of Bread & Life, the holding company of Andersen Group of Hiroshima City, and the employees of the company. Takaki is Honorary Consul of Denmark and he was appointed to the honorable position of ambassador of H.C. Andersen on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of H.C. The donated Sakura trees were planted in Langelinie Park. In Japan people love and admire Sakura blossom and almost everybody go out to enjoy its beauty together with families, friends, lovers, office-mates and so forth wherever and whenever Sakura bloom. Once a year Sakura connects people and people meet people under Sakura trees. It is also the utmost and fundamental goal of the Committee. The Committee has an honor to have H.H. Princess Elizabeth as Patroness and as Honorable Chairpersons H.E. the Ambassador of Japan to Denmark and Lord Mayor of the City of Copenhagen. The Committee consists of representatives of Japan related business, cultural and private organizations, the Municipality of Copenhagen and the Japanese Embassy.

From instrument design to method support and field service, we partner with laboratories to reduce downtime, ensure data integrity, and keep operations running reliably. Our Crafttech approach — the fusion of craftsmanship and technology — is designed to give lab managers predictable performance and lasting value.

"At Shimadzu Denmark, our roots go back to Japan. Supporting the Sakura Festival feels like a small way of sharing that connection, and celebrating culture, curiosity and moments best enjoyed together."

Thank you Shimadzu!

Upcycled Fabric Tsumami-Zaiku Work shop!
This activity will take place on the Second Stage this Saturday at 1:00 PM. Don’t miss it!

Tsumami zaiku (つまみ細工) is a traditional Japanese craft technique. “Tsumami” refers to the act of pinching and folding small pieces of fabric into shapes such as petals and leaves etc. It is built on two fundamental techniques: maru-tsumami / ken-tsumami (rounded / pointed petal folding).
They can be used to create a wide range of forms, from plum blossoms and hydrangeas to birds and even Mount Fuji. The mood of each piece can also change dramatically depending on the size, colors, choice of fabric, and the way the layers are combined. Every piece is one of a kind.

While “zaiku” means decorative craftsmanship or handwork. Its origins date back to around the Edo period, today, you will often see it worn with kimono as an elegant hair ornament by people celebrating their Coming of Age.

In this workshop, while preserving traditional techniques, we use up-cycled fabric to create pieces that convey a fusion of Denmark and Japan. To celebrate this Sakura Festival, you will have the opportunity to make a single cherry blossom.
