Copenhagen Photo Festival

Copenhagen Photo Festival The official Copenhagen Photo Festival page. Copenhagen Photo Festival (CPF) is the largest photo festival in the Nordic region.

During our festival in June, exhibitions span the whole of Copenhagen and southern Sweden with more than 55 exhibitions including our exhibitions at Refshaleøen, and those organized by our satellite partners at diverse venues, ranging from galleries, museums, cultural institutions, to independent exhibition spaces, private apartments, cafés and libraries. Each year, ca. 250 Danish and foreign photographers participate in our festival, whose works are visited by around 55.000. The festival presents a programme of high quality – artistically and conceptually – building bridges between fine art and documentary photography. Exhibitors are selected that bring special focus on our three main pillars; Framing Identity, Framing Society and Framing Vision. CPF’s mission is to actively engage and develop experimental and sustainable forms of exhibiting by presenting new perspectives and emerging talents. Throughout the festival days, we celebrate the diverse forms of photography and lens-based art through activities such as exhibitions, workshops, talks, and portfolio reviews. Our next edition will be running June 1-11 2023.

Open Call 2027 – 4 DAYS LEFT

How do you imagine your project as an exhibition?

Being selected as a Solo Artist at Copenhagen Photo Festival means thinking beyond the individual image and – in close collaboration with our curatorial team – developing an independent, site-responsive solo exhibition that engages and often surprises audiences.

Over the years, artists have transformed distinctive festival settings – from public exhibitions in the cityscape and the post-industrial surroundings of Refshaleøen to the spectacular foyer of The Royal Danish Theatre – through photography, video, installation, sound and material experimentation.

Our Open Call 2027 invites photographers and visual artists worldwide to submit an artistically and visually ambitious project engaging with the theme Frie hænder | Free Hands – and to be open to exhibiting in settings or with materials and installations that may surprise audiences or invite them to meet and reflect on photography in new ways.

Ten projects will be shortlisted and featured across CPF’s platforms. Of these, 3–5 will be selected for solo exhibitions at the festival centre in the heart of Copenhagen.

Exhibition costs are covered by Copenhagen Photo Festival. Selected solo artists also receive an artist fee, curatorial collaboration, targeted PR and travel support for international artists.

OPEN CALL 2027 · NOT SURE HOW TO GET YOUR APPLICATION OFF THE GROUND?

Looking for a quick fix?

We hate to break it to you: there is no quick fix or magic formula for creating a strong application — or for being selected.

But these five questions can make the process easier and help you reflect on your project and refine how you present it.

A strong application does more than present a series of compelling images. It shows us the idea, enquiry or story at the heart of the work, how the project engages with the theme, why it matters now, and how it might take shape as an exhibition.

Swipe through five questions that can help you sharpen your proposal, communicate your ideas clearly, and consider the project’s potential as a solo exhibition.

The questions are intended as prompts for reflection — not as additional application requirements.
