Sahib Shihab (Edmund Gregory) played with many of jazz’s finest musicians. Shortly after he became one of the first jazz players to change their names due to an Islamic conversion, he joined Thelonious Monk for his Blue Note sessions. He also played with Art Blakey, Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Pettiforn and Quincy Jones. A unique musician, he was at home in every musical style, from the experimentalism of Thelonious Monk to the more direct hard bop of Art Blakey. Sahib Shihab’s distinctive sound was rooted in his modernist compositions and arrangements, complemented by an intense, soulful playing style.

In 1959 he toured Europe with Quincy Jones after getting fed up with racial politics in USA and ultimately settled in Scandinavia. He worked for Copenhagen Polytechnic and wrote scores for television, cinema and theatre. He remained there until 1973. During this period, he recorded several albums as leader for European labels such as Vogue, Storyville and Futura.

In 1961 he joined The Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland Big Band and remained a key figure in the band for the 12 years it ran. He married a Danish lady and raised a family in Europe, although he remained a conscious African-American still sensitive to racial issues.

This record, on the Danish Oktav label, his second as a leader and also his rarest is a true masterpiece !!!

Efter massiv opbakning og stærk digital performance samler Anton Westerlin nu sit anmelderroste format ’Bag Gardinerne’ i et opsamlingsalbum på vinyl, der udkommer den 25. september. Albummet samler højdepunkterne fra sæson 1 og 2, og suppleres med helt nye tracks, som ikke tidligere er officielt udgivet.

Bag Gardinerne er mere end en compilation. Det er et direkte indblik i maskinrummet bag nogle af Danmarks mest spændende samarbejder - skabt i realtid, fra første idé til færdigt track. Formatet har siden lanceringen markeret sig som noget unikt på den danske musikscene ved at invitere lytterne helt tæt på den kreative proces.

Med albummet får fans nu mulighed for at opleve de stærkeste øjeblikke samlet, samtidig med at nye samarbejder bliver tilgængelige på vinyl for første gang.

Den prisvindende producer har de seneste år cementeret sin position som en af landets mest toneangivende producere. Med flere priser og en imponerende hitliste bag sig, har han formået at skabe et format, der både dokumenterer og udvikler dansk musik.

Mange har spurgt og nu er den endelig på vej. Lander i butikken en af de næste dage.

MELLEMBLOND: "SIKKE EN DAG"

Sikke En Dag er otte stærke og tidløse sange, der følger deres egen poetiske strøm og kalder på at blive lyttet og genlyttet til.
Albummet markerer et gensyn med Mellemblonds oprindelige besætning fra debut-EP’en i 2008: Kristoffer Munck Mortensen, Silas Tinglef og Jens Hein. Desuden medvirker Jakob Munck, Trentemøller og Anna Brønsted / Our Broken Garden.

Det er en koncentreret lytteoplevelse, som langsomt folder sig ud. Med de udsendte singler Sikke En Dag, Sensommerserenade og Ikke se har albummet allerede fundet vej til både radioen og streamingtjenesternes playlister. Det næste udspil fra albummet, Flygtigt forår, er en duet med Anna Brønsted / Our Broken Garden. Sangen strejfer en Cardigansk lige ud ad landevejen-stemning, der, i mødet med den eftertænksomme tekst og Annas lyse stemmeklang, bringer Mellemblond et nyt og eventyrligt sted hen.

Med Sikke En Dag vender Mellemblond tilbage til rødderne – både musikalsk og menneskeligt. Ud over at have den originale besætning om bord er Kristoffer Munck Mortensens bror, Jakob, nemlig også med på albummet, hvor han spiller trombone på flere af sangene.

Sikke En Dag er produceret af Silas Tinglef og Kristoffer Munck Mortensen og indspillet i juli 2025 i Silas’ studie på Amager.
De billedrige tekster får plads i musikken i en varieret samling sange, der både er umiddelbare og eftertænksomme: Man kan danse til Let og græde til Lykkelige igen. Titelnummeret Sikke en dag læner sig ind i et solidt groove, mens man undrer sig over tilværelsen, og Til troende sender lytteren tilbage til tressernes psykedeliske rock. På Sidder i mørket får storbyens ensomhed modspil af et bossanova-beat og italiensk mandolin-stemning, og Sensommerserenade maler en lun augustaften på Christianshavn frem. Ikke se er en vintersang med morgenmørke og tungsindighed spundet op omkring Trentemøllers catchy tema, mens Flygtigt forår åbner for lyset med Anna Brønsteds luftige vokal.

Orville Peck's fourth studio album, Mule, is his most intimate and ambitious record yet. Following last year's Appaloosa EP, it plays out as a chronological account of the year that changed his life.

Across the album, Peck traces the collapse of addiction, the difficult pursuit of sobriety, and the slow, uncertain work of rebuilding. He tells it with honesty, humour, and real compassion, keeping the songs grounded even as the emotions run deep.

Mule moves fluidly between classic country storytelling, bluegrass, and wide-screen Americana, with Orville Peck facing love, loss, and identity head on. It's a brave, clear-eyed record that shows just how expansive his songwriting can be.

Catching up with Thee Sinseers ahead of their new Colemine Records release, Love Stories, one thing becomes abundantly clear: this is not an LP that explores a neat and tidy love story.

The vision of love put forth on this record is full-spectrum. Think of the seminal 1993 East LA film Blood In Blood Out — three protagonists bound together through hardship, strife, and diverging roads, who ultimately circle back to reckon with why they remain. It's a similar story here. Love Stories isn't interested in the happy ending. It's interested in everything that comes before it, after it, and in spite of it.

Of course, none of this is accidental. More than a new record, Love Stories is a portrait of a band that has finally grown into itself — one that knows exactly who it is and isn't shy about saying so. As Quiñones puts it: "It's a solidifying statement of where we are now. This is our style."

Bassist Christopher Manjarrez described that confidence as something you can hear: "Everything was just that notch up." In contrast to Sinseerly Yours, which had developed organically from a four-piece into an eleven-member ensemble, Love Stories was built from the ground up as a collective effort — every role established before the band entered the studio. "We went in knowing these are the roles that are gonna be played by these people," Quiñones says. "Everybody was considered wholeheartedly in every arrangement aspect."

That collective approach extended into the sonic choices themselves. Every member zoomed out — listening not just to their own parts but to the record as a whole, what Quiñones calls thinking like "a beautiful painting" rather than a collection of individual tracks. With that foundation in place, the band handed the final mix to engineer Kelly Finnigan. "We could get so far with our opinions," Quiñones admits, "but at the end of the day there's still 10 or 11 of us trying to figure out what's right." The band also leaned into earthier instrumentation — standup bass, guitars run through amplifiers for a warmer sixties-adjacent tone — pulling inspiration from wherever it presented itself, even the most unlikely of places. It's that cross-genre thinking that Quiñones sees as the record's defining quality. "It didn't feel like we were making soul music at any point," he says. "It felt like we were making our music."

Like an unsent love letter finally delivered, Love Stories carries the weight of everything that was felt but never quite said. The universality of that feeling is perhaps best captured in Quiñones's own words: "It's never too late to change. It's never too late to tell a person you love that you love them." After any song on this record, Eric Johnson says, there's really only one appropriate response. "Damn."
