Mehrwöchiges Festival mit Workshops, Konzerten und Jam Sessions

Der Yiddish Summer Weimar ist ein interkulturelles Festival, das sich in jedem Sommer mehrere Wochen intensiv mit der Kultur der osteuropäischen Juden auseinandersetzt. Sowohl Klezmermusik als auch jiddischer Tanz, Gesang, die jiddische Sprache und das Geschichtenerzählen stehen auf dem Programm. Die Besonderheit: Die Kultur wird in einwöchigen Workshops vermittelt, so dass das jiddische Erbe erfo

rscht, studiert und vor allem weiterentwickelt werden kann. Zusätzlich loten Künstler*innen bei zahlreichen Konzertabenden die Grenzen jiddischer und jüdischer Musik aus. In der Festivalwoche lockt ein 24-Stunden-Programm, das zahlreiche Schnupperkurse umfasst, alle Facetten der jiddischen Kultur kennenzulernen. Ab 2016 wird außerdem das jiddische zeitgenössische Theater ein neuer Festivalschwerpunkt.

🎵 Youth Klezmer Band — for kids and teens!

Are you between 7–19? Grab your instrument or warm up your voice and join us for an exciting, hands-on introduction to klezmer music and Yiddish song!

Whether it’s your first time playing klezmer or you’ve already tried it before, this workshop is all about fun, music, and feeling the rhythm.

We’ll play together for four days at the Youth Klezmer Band workshop during Yiddish Summer Weimar 2026, one of Europe’s coolest music festivals. No previous klezmer experience? No problem — everyone can join.

The Youth Klezmer Band is a collaboration between Yiddish Summer Weimar and the Johann Nepomuk Hummel Music School in Weimar.
Open to all ages 7–19, whether you’re a student at music school or not — and whether you joined last year or not!

Are you a music student or an early-career musician? Join one of our international music projects this summer for learning and performance opportunities!

Besides the workshops at Yiddish Summer Weimar, we offer two youth projects: YAM Ensemble and Caravan Orchestra and Choir. Both will rehearse and perform intensively for several weeks this summer!

Both projects explore the rich musical traditions of the Mediterranean. YAM plays Greek, Turkish, and Yiddish music, while Caravan focuses on Yiddish and Middle Eastern music. In either project, you’ll discover new music, make new friends, and travel and perform with the ensemble! 🎻

Feel the rhythm in our dance & dance music workshops! 💃

From 11-15 August, Vivien Zeller & Eli Benedict will teach a dance workshop for all levels.

And on the same dates, instrumentalists can rehearse with the dance orchestra with Szilvia Csaranko, Susi Evans , and others.

Both workshops culminate in the famous YSW dance ball at the end of the week!

If language is your thing — this is for you: the YSW Intensive Yiddish Language Program ☀️

From July 13–26, we invite you to join the only summer festival program dedicated to both contemporary and Hasidic Yiddish, taught by native speakers in cooperation with YUNG YiDiSH WIEN.

Explore the “other” Yiddish — Yiddish in the 21st century — together with
Kriszta Eszter Szendrői, Mendy Cahan, Eli Benedict & Eidel Malowicki.

Participants of all levels are welcome.
