Genius Loci Weimar is an exciting international festival for multimedia facade projections and site-specific audiovisual performances. The festival combines the historical spirit of Weimar and the contemporary techniques of video mapping, involving static objects in order to create an additional geometrical dimension and optical illusion. Genius Loci Weimar combines an international competition, e

xhibition, workshops, club-event, and public evening shows of the awarded projections, thereby offering an overview of the current international video mapping art-production to a wide audience.

Genius Loci Weimar ist ein jährlich stattfindendes Festival für ortspezifisch entwickelte audiovisuelle Kunst, insbesondere (interaktive) Fassaden-, Raum- und Objektprojektionen. Das Festival verbindet den historischen Geist Weimars und die zeitgenössischen Technik des Videomappings, eine Projektionstechnik, die die Projektionsfläche in die Bildgestaltung einbezieht und so unbewegten Objekten eine zusätzliche Dimension verleiht und optische Illusionen schafft. Genius Loci Weimar bietet in einem international ausgeschriebenen Wettbewerb, einer Ausstellung, Workshops und dem Genius Loci Club eine Bestandsaufnahme aktueller Videomapping-Produktionen weltweit und lädt das Publikum zu prämierten Projektionsshows auf historischen Fassaden in der Weimarer Innenstadt ein.

We're delighted to be featured by ADAC (Germany's largest automobile club) as one of the most beautiful light festivals of 2026. 🎉

It was a pleasure to be part of the jury and to experience so many creative approaches to projection mapping from artists around the world.

Thank you to the organisers, the artists, and everyone involved for making this such a special event. And congratulations to all finalists and award winners!

From the political legacy of the House of the Weimar Republic, to Schillers Residence a home to literature and creativity, to the Niketemple as a historic site of media and public discourse: each Location carries it's own memories, it's own Genius Loci.

For Genius Loci Weimar 2026, these buildings become projection surfaces for new artistic perspectives on "Democracy and Society".
