We’re happy to announce the DOC AROUND EUROPE Award at DOC LAB 2025:
THE GRANDFATHER PUZZLE by Ora DeKornfeld ()

The project follows the director’s journey to reconnect with her 100-year-old Hungarian grandfather, a Holocaust survivor, by turning places from his escape story into custom jigsaw puzzles they assemble together. An intimate film about memory, trauma, and what it takes to build a home of one’s own.

🎬 Our member festival Biografilm calls for films!

The 22nd edition of Biografilm Festival will take place from June 5–15, 2026 in Bologna — the city where stories of real lives, imagination, and creativity meet.

🌍 Known internationally as the festival dedicated to life stories and quality cinema, Biografilm celebrates films that explore the world we live in with original, bold, and courageous voices, whether through documentary or fiction.

✨ Eligibility:
• Italian premiere required
• Minimum length: 50 minutes
• Completed after January 1, 2025

🎥 Biografilm features several sections, including International Competition, Biografilm Italia, Contemporary Lives, Beyond Fiction – Oltre la finzione, and Art & Music. Each year, filmmakers from around the world gather to share human stories that inspire empathy, reflection, and dialogue.

In a fictional year 2230, Arazay lives in an Afrofuturistic world—free of war, scarcity, and discrimination. But her peace is interrupted by visions from the past: memories of Koku, a Black girl growing up in 1990s Germany, and later visiting her father’s homeland, Tanzania.

As these memories begin to arrive like dreams, Arazay must decide: will she carry the inherited pain of her ancestors, or erase it all?
A hybrid journey between speculative fiction and personal documentary unfolds—across time, space, and identity.
