Jury Announcement 3/7

We are delighted to welcome Gernot Sieber to the jury of the Munich Piano Competition for the first time.

His musical formation began very early: at the age of nine he was admitted to the Mozarteum University Salzburg, where he studied piano with the Salzburg pianist and Mozart specialist Kurt Neumüller and composition with Austrian composer and theorist Friedrich Neumann. During this time, the Mozarteum’s director Bernhard Paumgartner recognized his talent and frequently invited the young pianist to perform Mozart and Beethoven concertos.

After receiving the Cultural Award of German Industry, Sieber continued his studies at the Munich Academy of Music with the internationally renowned Viennese pianist Friedrich Wührer, deepening his engagement with the major works of Schubert, Schumann, Brahms and Beethoven.
His repertoire today ranges from Bach, Mozart and Beethoven to Debussy, Bartók and the Second Viennese School, including the piano works of Arnold Schönberg. As a concert pianist he has performed internationally with ensembles such as the Munich Chamber Orchestra and in numerous chamber music collaborations.

In addition to his performing career, Sieber has over 25 years of teaching experience, continuing a rich tradition of European piano pedagogy while mentoring new generations of pianists.

PIANO SUMMER REVIEW 2025 | Part 6 of 6 The Finale: Salento, Italy – Education & Empowerment

Our journey reaches its final destination in the sun-drenched landscape of Salento for a impactful chapter of our season: the launch of our new project, „MEETS“. This initiative marks a significant expansion of our mission, focusing on political education and the dedicated promotion of young talent.

In the heart of Lecce, we brought classical music directly to the next generation. Under the guidance of our Artistic Director, , and the brilliant pianist .chiarelli , we performed Prokofiev’s beloved musical fairy tale, „Peter and the Wolf“, at two local schools. Seeing the curiosity and joy of the students reminded us why nurturing young minds through artistry is at the core of what we do.

Parallel to our work in schools, we dedicated a vital part of our program to historical justice: a lecture discussion held by , on female composers on the example of F***y Mendelssohn. We aim to provide a platform for voices that have been overlooked for too long, blending musical heritage with contemporary social awareness.

We are incredibly honored to realize these visionary projects through the support of our dedicated partners. Our deepest gratitude goes to , .regionale.puglia , Edmondo di Amicis, Istituto Comprensivo Cavallino-Lecce, for their patronage and commitment to cultural education.

This finale in Salento is more than a conclusion; it is a promise for the future—where music serves as a bridge for education, equality, and the vibrant spirit of the next generation.
