For over 140 years we at Gebrüder Mönnig in Markneukirchen have been mak­ing wood­wind in­stru­ments using pre­ci­sion hand­made craft­man­ship with the goal of sup­port­ing be­gin­ners just learn­ing how to play as well as of­fer­ing cus­tom made prod­ucts to very de­mand­ing, top level pro­fes­sional and soloists all over the world. In the pro­duc­tion of our in­stru­ments we use only the best ma­te­ri­als and wood well-sea­soned over many years in a nat­ural at­mosh­pere. In the process of pro­duc­tion our pri­mary ori­en­ta­tion is al­ways the stan­dard of top qual­ity with a like­wise high de­gree of pre­ci­sion and re­li­ablity. To re­al­ize our own high stan­dards as well as the ex­pec­ta­tions of our cus­tomers we uti­lize an op­ti­mal com­bi­na­tion of the most mod­ern pro­duc­tion tools with the art of tra­di­tional, ir­re­place­able hand craft­man­ship that has been passed on from gen­er­a­tion to gen­er­a­tion and is con­tin­u­ally re­fined.

For this special 150th anniversary 214 D-DJ bassoon series we used the not so common birds eye maple. Exceptional appearance and an extraordinary sound. Its distinctive, rounded growth abnormalities are what gave it its name. Due to its high density, this wood produces slightly more overtones compared to flamed maple.

Our professional bassoons come with a special pad configuration. All pads that are exposed to high levels of moisture are fitted with cork pads coated with a thin layer of silicone.

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the sudden passing of Philippe Rigoutat. With his passing, the oboe world loses not only an outstanding and highly esteemed instrument maker, but also a wonderful and endearing person with whom we shared a bond of genuine affection and mutual respect.

We will cherish his memory and fondly recall the many wonderful encounters we had the privilege of sharing with him around the world.
