Trial & Error - DIY Music Conference, Hanover (2026)

As part of the Trial & Error – DIY Music Lab, themed ‘Music & Visuals’, we invite you to an audiovisual concert at the MusikZentrum on 2 October 2026, starting at 7.00 pm.
Together with our partner MACHINA BRISTRONICA from Bristol, we have established two artist partnerships to strengthen the ties between the two cities. The line-up is rounded off with an audiovisual Live-set by Kat Davids and AVHS from Berlin.

Workshop: DIY ROOM ACOUSTICS - Crafting Edition!

Mit Plan die Raumakustik deines Studios oder Proberaums verbessern? Kein Problem: An drei Abenden plant und baut ihr eure eigenen Akustikelemente für euren individuellen Raum, angeleitet und betreut von Dominik Börner (Akustikingenieur und Musiker).
Neben der praktischen Umsetzung vermittelt der Workshop fundiertes Wissen über Raumakustik und die zugrunde liegenden physikalischen Zusammenhänge. Ziel ist es, ein besseres Verständnis für die akustischen Bedingungen im eigenen Studio zu entwickeln und typische Probleme wie verfälschte Klangwahrnehmung gezielt zu verbessern.

Bitte Mitbringen:
- Dimension deines Raums, welchen du optimieren möchtest (Höhe, Breite, Tiefe in cm)
- Bilder des Raums (Tonquelle, Fenster etc. sollten zu sehen sein.)

Zwei Akustik-Elemente pro Teilnehmer*in sollten im Zuge des Workshops realisierbar sein und können im Anschluss direkt mitgenommen werden.

Die Materialkosten jede*r Teilnehmer*in liegen bei ca. 300,00 €. Diese werden von der Hörregion Hannover durch eine Förderung mit 150,00 € unterstützt. Nur so ist die Teilnahmegebühr inkl. Materialkosten für 150,00 € pro Teilnehmer*in möglich.

Die Fader an deinem Mixer krächzen, aus deinem Synthie kommen, wenn überhaupt, nur noch schiefe Töne, dein favorisiertes Effect-Pedal hat den Geist aufgegeben und der Kopfhörer funktioniert nur noch, wenn das Kabel exakt im 72° Winkel ans Gehäuse geklebt wird?
Wenn dir diese Probleme nicht fremd sind und du lernen möchtest sie selber zu beheben, ist dieses Workshopangebot für dich:

In drei Workshop-Tagen lernen wir zunächst die elektrotechnischen Grundlagen kennen, machen uns mit methodischer Fehlersuche (trouble-shooting) vertraut und lernen wie wir die erkannten Fehler beheben können. Im Zuge des Workshops wird dir auch das Löten und der Umgang mit Messgeräten vermittelt.
Du kannst gerne auch ein defektes Gerät mitbringen (ACHTUNG: Bei der Anmeldung unbedingt angeben!) und dieses mit Unterstützung von nosh im Workshop selber reparieren.

If these problems sound familiar and you want to learn how to fix them yourself, this workshop is for you:

Over three workshop days, we will first learn the basics of electrical engineering, familiarize ourselves with methodical troubleshooting, and learn how to fix the problems we identify. During the workshop, you will also learn how to solder and use measuring instruments.
You are welcome to bring a defective device with you (PLEASE NOTE: Be sure to mention this when registering!) and repair it yourself in the workshop with the support of nosh.

[soundinstallation] FICTION LISTENING by Ole Blank

fr, 31.10 & sa, 01.11 at Hafven Hof

Ole Blank works with sound as artistic material and a method of cognition. His practice explores how perception changes when space is heard rather than seen. He understands hearing as a form of relationship—an active process that creates closeness rather than distance.

Many of his works are based on field recordings made over long periods of time in specific landscapes. He is less interested in the documentary aspect than in drawing attention to the fleeting: wind, movement, resonance, disturbance. The microphone becomes a tool for open perception.

Blank’s installations are spaces for listening. They do not create fixed narratives, but rather situations in which sound, architecture, and the body influence each other. His works understand listening as a research practice—as a way of experiencing the world through resonance, not control.

For Trial And Error, Ole Blank is developing a new 8-channel sound installation in which recordings of public places in Hanover are combined with the situational soundscape in the courtyard of the Hafven. The result is a surreal acoustic map of the city in which reality and imagination merge.
The starting point is the idea of fiction listening—listening as an active, meaningful process that does not reproduce sound, but creates it.
The work explores how urban spaces are recomposed through attention, memory, and projection in the ear, forming their own fleeting reality.

They address questions such as: In times of digital connection, are venues still crucial for creating community and political consciousness? How can they do that and what new roles do emerge. How can they anchor contemporary issues to remain relevant beyond the dancefloor today? In addition, we want to find out how such institutions are affected by state repression and how this affects their work.
