Unique museums and industrial locations, exhibitions, workshops, portfolio review, conference, artist talks, container city, slideshows, projections and parties! The Triennial of Photography Hamburg originated as an initiative of the photographer and collector F. Every third year since 1999 a festival of photography has taken place in Hamburg. Meanwhile, the Triennial of Photography Hamburg has be

come an important festival of international reputation. In 2005 for instance, 83 museums, galleries, and other organizations with 114 exhibitions took part in the 3rd Triennial of Photography that was visited by 260,000 guests. Besides a great variety of exhibitions presenting the whole range of photographic techniques and styles, the festival was complemented by symposia, lectures, and conferences. The main organizer of the Triennial is Deichtorhallen.

Join us and the participating institutions of the 9th Triennial of Photography Hamburg 2026 as the Opening Parcours unfolds across the city from Thursday afternoon on. 🎉

During the first three festival days, 11 institutional exhibitions open throughout the city — offering the chance to experience the 9th Triennial step by step, from one venue to the next. Beyond the parcours itself, the Opening Days invite you to explore the festival theme “Alliance Infinity Love – in the Face of the Other” through a diverse and interdisciplinary programme, shared experiences and encounters across Hamburg.

Begleitet uns und die beteiligten Institutionen der 9. Triennale der Photographie Hamburg 2026, wenn sich der Opening Parcours ab morgen Nachmittag in der Stadt entfaltet.

An den ersten Festivaltagen eröffnen 11 institutionelle Ausstellungen in ganz Hamburg und laden dazu ein, die 9. Triennale Schritt für Schritt und von Ort zu Ort zu erleben. Sonic Bodies brings together music, performance and collective listening at the festival centre of the 9. Triennale der Photographie Hamburg 2026 🌊

For this edition, Heinrich Holtgreve, aka wenner pennt, creates a soundtrack somewhere between yacht rock, vaporwave and bittersweet hotel lobby euphoria. Dreamy, nostalgic and atmospheric, the set unfolds like wet Polaroids in a glove compartment — music for wistful skies and messages never sent.

Before the official opening of the 9th Triennial of Photography Hamburg 2026, two events already set the programme in motion ✨

Tonight, “Yes – Us Too! Gay Men in Hamburg from the 1970s to the 1990s” opens as the first exhibition of Triennale Expanded. Tomorrow, “On Waiting 1” launches our short film programme presented in cooperation with the 42nd Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg.

Mit „Ja – Wir Auch! Schwule Männer in Hamburg der 1970er bis 1990er Jahre“ eröffnet heute Abend die erste Ausstellung von Triennale Expanded. Morgen startet dann „On Waiting 1“ – das Kurzfilmprogramm, das wir in Kooperation mit dem 42. Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg zeigen.

How can diasporic life be archived beyond stereotypes? 📷

In conversation with Laurel Chokoago, Cate Lartey (moderated by Jumoke Olusanmi) presents “Black Archive Germany” – a project exploring the collecting, archiving and visualising of Black, African and Afro-diasporic lived realities in Germany.

Moving between photography, artistic practice and collective memory, the talk reflects on archives not only as places of documentation, but as spaces for exchange, visibility and new imaginaries.

Wie lassen sich diasporische Lebensrealitäten jenseits von Stereotypen archivieren? 📷

Im Gespräch mit Laurel Chokoago stellt Cate Lartey (moderiert von Jumoke Olusanmi) “Black Archive Germany” vor – ein Projekt, das sich mit dem Sammeln, Archivieren und Sichtbarmachen Schwarzer, afrikanischer und afro-diasporischer Lebensrealitäten in Deutschland beschäftigt.

What does justice look like? ⚖️

Organised in collaboration with the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (.eu) and the Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg (), this conversation explores how photography shapes ideas of power, history and human value — and asks whether justice can ever be captured in a single image.

Bringing together artists, curators and legal perspectives, the discussion reflects on the political force of images and the role photography can play in making marginalised realities visible.

Wie sieht Gerechtigkeit aus? ⚖️

In Zusammenarbeit mit dem European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (.eu) und dem Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg () widmet sich dieses Gespräch der Frage, wie Fotografie Vorstellungen von Macht, Geschichte und menschlichem Wert prägt — und ob sich Gerechtigkeit überhaupt in einem einzelnen Bild festhalten lässt.

Künstlerische, kuratorische und juristische Perspektiven treffen aufeinander und untersuchen die politische Kraft von Bildern sowie die Rolle der Fotografie bei der Sichtbarmachung marginalisierter Realitäten.
