Unique museums and industrial locations, exhibitions, workshops, portfolio review, conference, artist talks, container city, slideshows, projections and parties! The Triennial of Photography Hamburg originated as an initiative of the photographer and collector F. Every third year since 1999 a festival of photography has taken place in Hamburg. Meanwhile, the Triennial of Photography Hamburg has become an important festival of international reputation. In 2005 for instance, 83 museums, galleries, and other organizations with 114 exhibitions took part in the 3rd Triennial of Photography that was visited by 260,000 guests. Besides a great variety of exhibitions presenting the whole range of photographic techniques and styles, the festival was complemented by symposia, lectures, and conferences. The main organizer of the Triennial is Deichtorhallen.

Join q***r cultural worker and activist Didine van der Platenvlotbrug for a special drag tour through “Alliance, Infinity, Love – in the Face of the Other”. Moving between art and activism, Didine will explore selected works and perspectives from the exhibition, reflecting on questions of diversity, connection and our relationship to the »Other«.

The 9th Triennial of Photography Hamburg 2026 is entering its final days. Here are some special opportunities to discover the exhibitions from those who shaped them.

Join Nadine Isabelle Henrich, accompanied by Bindi Vora, Mark Sealy and Sabine Schnakenberg for three guided tours at Deichtorhallen, offering insights into selected works, curatorial approaches and the stories behind the exhibitions. From Akosua Viktoria Adu-Sanyah’s analogue photographic practice to the diverse perspectives on photography in “Alliance, Infinity, Love - in the Face of the Other” and the ways in which the body is explored in “Cocktail Prolongé: F.C. Gundlach Special”.

Die 9. Triennale der Photographie Hamburg 2026 nähert sich ihrem Ende. Damit gibt es noch einmal besondere Gelegenheiten für euch, die Ausstellungen aus Perspektive derjenigen zu entdecken, die sie gestaltet haben.

Begleitet Nadine Isabelle Henrich in Gesellschaft von Bindi Vora; Mark Sealy und Sabine Schnakenberg bei drei Führungen in den Deichtorhallen, die Einblicke in ausgewählte Werke, kuratorische Ansätze und die Geschichten hinter den Ausstellungen bieten. The 9th Triennial of Photography Hamburg 2026 is drawing to an end – but there’s still plenty to discover! Whilst the first exhibitions have already closed their doors, many are still open and invite you to explore the diverse perspectives of the 9th Triennial.

What comes after the 9th Triennial? What remains? What continues? ✨

The Forum brings together Akinbode Akinbiyi (artist), Anna Feistel (Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg), John Fleetwood (artist and educator), Nadine Isabelle Henrich (curator House of Photography), Carsten Rabe (artist and independent curator), and Joanna Warsza (Stadtkuratorin Hamburg).

Together, they will share experiences, connect different perspectives, ideas and ways of working that might continue to grow beyond this edition. The conversation will then open to the audience.

The opening of the Finissage is the keynote “Additions and Omissions” by photography educator and curator John Fleetwood.

Fleetwood’s work explores photography as a mode of knowledge production and circulation, with a particular focus on visual cultures, socially engaged practices and the ways photographic meaning is produced and mediated. In his keynote, he reflects on photography as a space of encounter, perception and interconnectedness.

As part of our final gathering, Artistic Director Mark Sealy then joins Fleetwood in a conversation following the keynote. The programme continues with a conversation on the 9th Triennial as a collaborative, city-wide project, featuring Akinbode Akinbiyi, Anna Feistel, Nadine Isabelle Henrich, Carsten Rabe and Joanna Warsza and concludes with music by Shimmy Robin.

Den Auftakt der Finissage bildet die Keynote „Additions and Omissions“ (dt: Ergänzungen und Auslassungen) des Kurators und Fotografie-Dozenten John Fleetwood.

Fleetwoods Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit Fotografie als Form der Wissensproduktion und -vermittlung, mit einem besonderen Fokus auf visuellen Kulturen und gesellschaftlich engagierten Praktiken. In seiner Keynote betrachtet er Fotografie als Raum der Begegnung, Wahrnehmung und Verbundenheit.

Im Anschluss spricht der Künstlerische Leiter Mark Sealy mit Fleetwood über die Keynote. Das Programm wird mit einem Gespräch über die 9. Triennale als gemeinschaftliches und stadtweites Projekt fortgesetzt, an dem Akinbode Akinbiyi, Anna Feistel, Nadine Isabelle Henrich, Carsten Rabe und Joanna Warsza teilnehmen, bevor wir den Abend im Foyer zu Musik von Shimmy Robin ausklingen lassen.

Our guests will reflect on how the 9th Triennial has unfolded as a city-wide project, asking: How has it engaged with the city, its audiences, institutions, and independent spaces? And what might be carried forward to shape Triennials to come? The conversation will then open to the audience.

As the evening draws to a close, Shimmy Robin will take over the foyer with music, inviting us to linger and come together one last time.
