We are proud to present the 44 films selected for the European Wildlife Film Awards 2027. Together, they bring Europe’s wildlife, nature and landscapes to the screen – from intimate encounters with remarkable species to powerful stories about biodiversity, conservation and a changing natural world. 🌿

These films make up the Official Selection 2027 and celebrate the filmmakers who capture the beauty, complexity and fragility of Europe’s wild nature through their work.
The selected films now enter the next chapter of the European Wildlife Film Awards – leading up to the award ceremony in Hamburg in February 2027. ✨

⏳ The countdown is on: Submissions for the European Wildlife Film Awards close on June 1!
The EWFA is the only film festival dedicated exclusively to European nature and one of Europe’s most highly endowed competitions for nature documentaries. 🌿🎬
Awards are presented in six categories, including four Jury Awards, the Short Film Award and the NDR Audience Award. All films selected for the Official Selection will be screened at our nature film cinema at the Wildlife Embassy in Hamburg.

Your film needs to focus on European wildlife. 🦉🐺🌲
Submission deadline: June 1.

Am 6. Mai zeigen wir den Gewinnerfilm „Sepia: Die Odyssee eines Tintenfischs“ von Romain Guénard und Matthieu Le Mau. 🌊🎥
Der Film begleitet das Tintenfischweibchen Sepia durch die faszinierende und zugleich fragile Unterwasserwelt vor der Küste der Bretagne. Zwischen Gezeiten, Jagd und Umweltveränderungen entwickelt sie sich zu einer beeindruckenden Jägerin. 🐙🌿

Ausgezeichnet wurde der Film bei den European Wildlife Film Awards (EWFA) 2026 als Bester Europäischer Film – Tierwelt und steht zur Wahl für den Publikumspreis 2027. 🏆

Patrick Centurioni (Austria) receives the Award for Best European Film – Nature Conservation for “Wildlife 2.0 – Adapting to a New World” 🎥🌿✨

In “Wildlife 2.0 – Adapting to a New World”, wildlife finds new ways to survive in landscapes shaped by humans. The film not only shows the challenges species face, but also highlights the people and initiatives working to protect them and restore habitats. 🐾

Endowed with €10,000 and donated by the Deutsche Wildtier Stiftung, the award honours a European film that makes an outstanding contribution to nature conservation through its storytelling, cinematic quality and impact. 🎬💚

🎥The European Wildlife Film Awards are entering their third edition: Starting April 15, we will be accepting submissions for films that explore Europe’s fascinating nature and wildlife. All films must have been produced within the last two years. The submission period closes on 1 June. You may submit documentaries that explore the themes of nature, wildlife, or the environment in Europe and that were completed no more than two years prior to submission.

🦉Winners will receive prize money totaling 47,500 euros, a handcrafted wooden owl trophy, and the title “Best European Nature Film 2027.” A jury of experts from the fields of nature conservation, media, science, and culture will select the winners in the categories Wildlife (sponsored by .wildtier.stiftung), Biodiversity (sponsored by ), Nature Conservation (sponsored by .wildtier.stiftung), and Best Story (sponsored by ). In addition, there is an Audience Award (sponsored by NDR) and an award for Best Short Film (sponsored by .de ). The awards ceremony will take place on February 6, 2027, at the Embassy of Wild Animals. The patron of the EWFA is Hamburg’s Second Mayor and Senator for the Environment, .fegebank .

➡️The EWFA is the only European nature film award and also the most highly endowed nature film competition in Europe. The best submitted films will be screened at the Nature Film Theater in the Embassy of Wild Animals after the 2027 awards ceremony.
