Located in the northwestern corner of Germany close to the North Sea coast the IFF Emden-Norderney is a true festival for the audience & focuses on current northwestern European feature-lenghts films. Within our programme more than 100 films - the newest productions from German-speaking countries and Great Britain, International highlights as well as discoveries, a fine selection of children’s and

family films, portraits on directors/actors rounded up by remarkable short films - are being presented to our enthusiastic and very loyal audiences (2016: 24.300 visitors) on 7 screens. As large part of the films within the competition will receive their German premiere here in Emden and on the island of Norderney, numerous films have been especially provided with German subtitles. Mostly due to to its warm, very personal atmosphere and a particular closeness between film-makers and an interested audience the IFF Emden-Norderney has acquired an excellent reputation over the years. The International Filmfest Emden|Norderney was founded in 1990 and takes place every year beginning of June.

In ist, wer drin ist! 🏝🌊
Auch in diesem Jahr sind beim Filmfest-Anbaden auf Norderney wieder einige Mutige ins Wasser gegangen. Nordsee, Anfang Juni, 19 Grad Lufttemperatur.
Wir sagen nur: Respekt!
Das Anbaden gehört zum Internationalen Filmfest Emden-Norderney wie der Abspann zum Film. Ein Programmpunkt beim Norderney-Ausflug für alle Festivalgäste, die sich trauen – und für alle anderen, die lieber zuschauen und Fotos machen.

Once again this year, a few brave souls took the plunge at the Filmfest-Anbaden on Norderney. The North Sea, early June, 19 degrees Celsius.
All we can say is: Respect!
The opening swim is as much a part of the Emden-Norderney International Film Festival as the credits are to a movie. It’s a must-see event during the Norderney excursion for all festival guests who dare to take the plunge—and for everyone else who’d rather watch and take photos.

Der Integrationspreis „Norderneyer Engel 2026“ geht an Faraz Shariat!
Auf Norderney ist der Preis zum zehnten Mal verliehen worden – an einen Regisseur, dessen Film „Staatsschutz“ in diesem Jahr zu den dringlichsten und mutigsten des deutschen Kinos gehört.
Eine Staatsanwältin, die nach einem rassistischen Anschlag auf ihr Leben selbst zu ermitteln beginnt. Ein System, das rechte Gewalt verharmlost. Und die Frage, ob man dieses System auch von innen heraus verändern kann.

The “Norderneyer Engel 2026” Integration Award goes to Faraz Shariat!
The award was presented for the tenth time on Norderney—to a director whose film “Staatsschutz” is among the most urgent and courageous works in German cinema this year.
A prosecutor who begins investigating her own case after a racist attack on her life. A system that downplays right-wing violence. And the question of whether this system can also be changed from within.

Norwegen zu Gast. Und das Wetter hat es vermutlich gemerkt.
Draußen Regen, drinnen der norwegische Film „Everything Must Go“ von Arild Østin Ommundsen – eine Geschichte über drei Geschwister, ein Erbe und die Frage, was von einer Familie bleibt, wenn der Vater geht. Feinfühlig, witzig, melancholisch. Mit Fischbrötchen im Foyer. Und Gesprächen, die so nur nach einem guten Film entstehen.

Norway is our guest. And the weather seems to have noticed.
Rain outside, inside the Norwegian film “Everything Must Go” by Arild Østin Ommundsen—a story about three siblings, an inheritance, and the question of what remains of a family when the father is gone. Sensitive, funny, melancholic. With fish sandwiches in the lobby. And conversations that only happen after a good movie.
