Today is World Packaging Day. 🌍
The World Packaging Organisation picked this date on purpose — it's the day WPO itself was founded, and now it marks something bigger: a moment to recognise what packaging actually does for the world, rather than what it's usually blamed for.
The idea behind it is simple. Packaging keeps food safe and edible longer. It makes trade and logistics possible at a global scale. It protects products, supports local businesses, and increasingly, it's where some of the most interesting sustainability innovation is happening. It supports sustainability, economic development, food protection, innovation, and quality of life — and most people never think about any of that until it's missing.
WPO is uniquely placed to lead something like this. As the only global body representing the entire packaging value chain, they're bringing together industry, academia, policymakers and the public to build awareness around four themes: health and accessibility, food waste reduction, economic growth, and sustainability. ♻️
This first edition is really the starting point — 2026 is about building momentum, with the full global campaign taking shape from here.
So today feels like a good day to say it plainly: packaging isn't the problem people often assume it is. Most of the time, it's the solution.
