connecting cottbus (coco) is an East West co-production market during FilmFestival Cottbus focussing on Eastern European cinema.

connecting cottbus is the East-West co-production market at the FilmFestival Cottbus for fiction feature film projects in development (cocoPITCH) and works in progress (cocoWIP) from broader Eastern Europe. This years edition takes place from the 3rd-5th of November 2021. We select ten feature film projects and four Work in Progress that are presented to a professional audience of experienced producers, buyers, commissioning editors, world sales, and financiers. coco supports many exciting East West co-productions and offers a network between Eastern and Western Europe.

PICKASTORY is the FilmFestival Cottbus competition dedicated to the very first spark of a film idea – with the audience involved from the very beginning.

👉 Who can apply?
Directors and screenwriters from across Europe with professional experience in the audiovisual industry.

📅 Deadline: Tuesday, September 15, 2026 (midnight CEST)

🏆 The winning project will receive four expert mentoring sessions in dramaturgy and production to develop the idea into a package ready for film funding, as well as the opportunity to present the project at 2027, the East-West Co-Production Market.

We are happy to announce the East West Emerging Producers Exchange winner at the TIFF Pitch Stop 2026: Mara Cracaleanu, Company: Melancholia Pictures, Romania!🥇
Mara presented the project “Sun Offspring,” directed by Octavian Şaramet.

As of 2024, we have extended our cocoLAB with the brand new “East-West Emerging Producers Exchange”, with a hand-picked group of exciting upcoming film producers from East and West.
🎬 Mara will participate in exchange sessions before and during the market and wll get the chance to meet and network with other producers and professionals!

💥Our programme manager Katharina Stumm served in the Short Film Jury at the Romanian Film Days of the Transilvania International Film Festival TIFF, alongside Spanish writer, journalist and director Javier Martín-Domínguez and co-founder of Les Arcs Film Festival Guillaume Calop.
Her participation highlights connecting cottbus’ ongoing commitment to fostering international exchange, discovering new diverse voices, and supporting the development of Central and Eastern European cinema.
